Jose Luis GOMEZ and Maxi ROMERO are both rumored to be making the change across the Atlantic.

According to reports, Portugal’s Benfica are interested in signing Lanus’ Jose Luis GOMEZ. The 24 year old is wanted by Benfica, per a report by O Jogo. Benfica reportedly sent someone over to Argentina last week to begin negotiating with the club. GOMEZ made his senior Argentina National Team debut in June of this year in a 1-0 victory against England.

Maxi ROMERO is the other one reportedly set to make a move to Europe. German Bundesliga club Stuttgart have offered 10 million to Velez for ROMERO with a 5 year contract to the forward. Velez reportedly turned the offer down with the German club sending out a counter proposal of 12 million which is expected to be accepted by the Argentinian club.

  1. Juan Sanchez Mino i think he may be selected for next friendlies. Interesting he can play in Multiple positions, Left Back,Left Wing, Midfield, May be a competition for Acuna??

    • Once I thought he would be best as CM. Sampaoli may have few players of Independiente on radar. Bustos, Tagliafico, Sanchez Mino, Franco and maybe even Meza, Barco.

      • Sampa have already said he likes Independiente playing style, so its highly probable to see some in the next friendlies. Multiple position playing players are always useful during a big tournament.

  2. Another young player that will leave Argentina with a “yet to fulfill” reputation…. let’s see how he will develop.

As for Lautaro Martinez, i’m curious to see if Simeone will finally able to develop another arg player other than Augusto Fernandez.

    • Augusto Fernandez was developed under Eduardo Berizzo tenure at Celta Vigo. Simeone had little to do with Augusto Fernandez evolution as a player. Now that Augusto is back from injury, it seems like he has fallen out of favor with Simeone. Simeone is poor with Argentinean players, this is why he would never be a good national team coach for Argentina. Ansaldi, Gaitan, Vietto, and Kranevitter La Liga careers were all ruin by Diego Simeone. Look at Guido Pizarro development under Berizzo, if you saw Pizarro play for the first time you’d probably believe he has been playing in Europe for many years now. Both Banega and Pizarro games have improved under Berizzo, it’s clearly obvious. Pizarro already push Nzonzi out of the Sevilla starting lineup. If Pizarro was at Atletico Madrid instead, he would be struggling under Simeone to settle in La Liga as player.

  3. Atletico confirmed Lautaro Martinez? Joins in the summer. If Griezmann leaves maybe a good move, Diego Costa-Martinez duo upfront can be a pain in the ass.

  4. Maxi Romero, after great start and few goals, has now weaker period in Superliga – though big talent. Along with Martinez both will scoring in Europe in future.

Maxi Romero is just one of many Velez Sarsfield young players that emerged recently and most of them shall be soon on European clubs radar. There are even more talented IMO – Matias Vargas or Nicolas Dominguez. Moreover: Caceres, Robertone, De La Fuente, Delgadillo, Ortega, Toni, Amor, Gianetti, Alvarenga, Cufre, Correa – all they play already for first team and most of them U-20 players. River, Boca or Independiente young generation is nowhere near to that of Velez.

  5. Gomez was first to blame for both conceeded goals on Copa Libertadores final second match but still the guy seems most promising (along with Bustos) than any other our current RM.

  6. Stuttgart is a great choice for Gomez, young team with talented players, he will play with Ascacibar and Insua in the midfield. I believe that in the national team Gomez-Acuna offers more balance comparing to Pavon-Di Maria.

  7. I really liked Gomez… too bad he got injured shortly aftet that call.. i thought he played a great game, especially vs Brazil and first cap.. unfortunately, not too familiar with romero

  8. “GOMEZ made his senior Argentina National Team debut in June of this year in a 1-0 victory against England.”
When did we play England in June? I guess you mean Brazil…
