Argentina U20 win the COTIF tournament, defeat Russia in the final in extra-time

Congratulations to the Argentina U20 team for winning the COTIF tournament!

Lionel SCALONI’s boys left it late, very late, winning the final 2-1 against Russia. Argentina fell behind early after Igor DIVEEV scored in the 11th minute. However, Facundo COLIDIO drew Argentina level just minutes later.

No goals in the second half meant extra-time. The first half of extra-time didn’t bring any goals and just as Argentina were looking to head towards a second consecutive penalty shootout, Alan MARINELLI gave Argentina the lead which proved to be the eventual tournament winner in the second half of extra-time.

Coach Lionel SCALONI had this to say:

“Our idea was to look for an identity, a way to feel the Argentina shirt. There’s nothing higher than the Argentina National Team. Hopefully our football can go back to be where it deserves.”

Here’s what Jeronimo POURTAU and Gonzalo MARONI had to say after the win:
Jeronimo PORTAU:

“I am very happy, this group deserves it.”

Gonzalo MARONI:

“We gave our all to win and in the end, we finished as the best.”

A big congratulations to Lionel SCALONI, his staff and the players on lifting the trophy!

  1. And still there is a lot quality to add in this category: Maxi Lovera, Maxi Romero, Barco, Rivas, Garre, Ortega, Nehuen Perez, Almada, Carranza, Roffo, Cruz Aruero, Benjamin Garay, Chancalay.

Despite the players which won Alcudia were mostly lesser known than the above the core should stay. For Sudamerica something like that:

    ………………………..Pourtau

    ………………….Balerdi…….Avila
    Mura………………………………………….Ortega (Pereyra)

    ………….Moreno?…..Ayala….Almendra

    Lovera………………………………………….Garre

    ……………….,,…..M.Romero

    Barreal
    Maroni
    Marinelli
    Gaich
    Colidio

  2. Alhamdulillah!
Congratulations to the juniors! At least they gave us a trophy & something positive finally! Thank u very much. Great job done by the kids as well as Scaloni, Aimar. Hope that good days r knocking at the door. Just hold on this great spirit and go ahead. Best of luck!
    Vamos Argentina!
    Love u Argentina!
    Always with Argentina!

  3. Well Congrats all, At least we can enjoy something. Next step – sudamericano Sub-20, will they Qualify for the WC? There will be more tougher teams. Lets see.

  4. I don’t want high profile coach for Argentina who become clueless after getting job. Aimar and scaloni hunger win cotif for Argentina and i want both to continue till copa America and after winning it to next world cup

  5. I am extremely happy that the JINX is finally broken. Hope the big boys have heard the news and felt proud. Scaloni-Aimar can take over the interim job with solid confidence which will help them managing the seniors. AFA should immediately hire a U20 & U17 coach becoz I understand that there is tournament in January’19 in Chile for U20 boys.
Further , if the friendly results for the senior team goes good and they can build proper team with a set formation and players, it will be sensible of AFA to keep Scaloni-Aimar till Copa. Meanwhile Tapia & Co. can go in their pursuit for Pochhetino/Simione/Peckerman/Gallardo/Almiron and fix someone within May’19.

Lastly, I really hope that this result brings some fresh Air within the systems of AFA and they seriously workout a project which was long missing to bring back the glory days.

    VAMOS .

    • Scaloni must be the coach for Argentina till 2022 if he able to recover us from crisis and win the u20 wc and copa

  6. Well done kiddos and well done coaches. Finally brought home some respect.

Now go ahead and build on this and do well in the South American Championship.

  7. Barcelona-Boca Juniors on next wednesday (Joan Gamper trophy), only one request: dont be pussies, Barca always destroy south american teams, but Boca squad is the best in SA without a doubt.

  8. Win pretty, win ugly, I dont give a shit, the W is the only thing that matters.

CONGRATS kids, and let that be a good start for the pair of coaches.

  9. Let’s see how this will evolve in the next couple of months for the coming sudamericano Sub-20 (next January or February?)….
