Argentina coach Lionel SCALONI is reportedly looking at three players to lead his midfield at the Copa America.

With veteran players like Javier MASCHERANO and Lucas BIGLIA retiring from the Argentina national team and the likes of Enzo PEREZ no longer being selected, coach SCALONI is looking at three players for his midfield at the Copa America.

Per a report by TyC Sports, SCALONI has Giovani LO CELSO, Leandro PAREDES and Exequiel PALACIOS in mind for his midfield three come the tournament this summer.

Giovani LO CELSO was included in the World Cup squad but the Real Betis man did feature a single second in Russia. Leandro PAREDES did not make the team while Exequiel PALACIOS made his Argentina debut with SCALONI at the helm.

  5. This is quite closed to Sarri’s Chelsea and Blanc’s Psg: Paredes stay deep with 2 box to box so one more defensive and the other guy need to run, press and can dribble and hold the ball. For the second one, I prefer Zaracho who can play as right midfielder, which allows to transform the 433 to 442, which is better for Messi, like what Roberto or Rakitic doing for him at club. Lo Celso, I think he should play in a more advanced position like left attacking midfielder, in competition with Di Maria and Lanzini.

    Palacios as the defensive box to box, why not. There will be lot of competition in this position. I believe that Acuna, Lisandro Martinez can be good fit too. They are actually even better because they can both play on the left too.

  6. Obviously Messi has a better understanding with Busquets, Rakitic, Vidal, Arthur, etc since he trains with them day in and day out…
    But a midfield of Palacios, Paredes, and Lo Celso may offer more pace, energy to Messi than he gets in Barcelona.
    Maybe not as much control and passing precision, but Messi won’t have to worry about dropping too deep as these guys are all attack minded, so in the long run it could be a mouthwatering combination.

    • Yes but these guys pretty much out play him. Also, no one has a confirmed formation so there could always be more players in midfield.

The problem with players like Messi and Riquelme is they r like Small kids,Who gets angry or Feels moody when they r not playing well they tend to keep their head down and show lesser interest in the Match, I may be wrong. But where as players like Tevez and Maradona r more Active players. Obviously its up to every persons character by the way. Some r shy while some r smart.

    So i think Its natural that Messi not looking happier, Suppose if we r playing football. We would be far comfortable playing with our friends(Whom we r sharing day in day out) than playing with a new set of players. It will take time to form an understanding. He will adapt, chemistry can be build. I think the new midfield is better than our stale midfield of Mascherano-Biglia-Banega trio. Our new players just don’t have to fall in that trap of “GIVE THE BALL TO MESSI HE WILL DO THE REST” It wont work.

    • I have to disagree. When Messi feels down or isn’t playing well, he jumps back up. He is a true captain, and he is our hero.

  9. Afa is dumb. They should have called the best players-comedians to entertain Messi. Instead they called actual football players. When do we learn? We need his friends and do everything to make him happy. He doesnt have anyone to play playstation. Look at the videos he looks isolated. Man this pisses me offf. We should take care of him like a little child. We should not treat him as a fucking grown man.

  10. I have seen some training videos and same thing again messi is isolated from the squad he is not talking to anyone training alone while training for barcelona he enjoys the companion for his teammates.

    • So you deduced by watching 1 training video that messi is unhappy? Even if it is true then it should be on messi not on coach or afa. Barcelona fanboys like you should understand that argentina does not revolve around messi. Every player should be collectively come together for NT even if he is the best player in history.

        Either you have never watched argentina match or you are a biggest liar.Argentina NT has been more dependent on messi than barcelona game wise and financially both.
        In barca he drops deep to collect ball from busquets but in NT he has to drop deep to collect ball from central defender. That greedy and corrupt AFA always used him for financial purpose to get good revenue from television ritghts and ticket revenue.
        Even a player like tagliafico said that ” a good group can win a trophy but there was no arrangement from AFA and they dont know how use a player like messi”

    • Just because someone doesn’t smile, that doesn’t mean they are sad, or not happy. That might mean they are more dedicated or focused into ACTUALLY training.

  11. A legit trio, All 3 r young and can lead our new Midfield for long time. The more they play together the more they get better. They can add some variety to our Midfield. but we need Back ups too, Battaglia, Ascacibar, Lanzini, Lamela, Vargas, Nico Domeniguez (Another gem who should be tested and can ably backup Palacios too) there r some cool players in our Mid field, they may not be playing the Big Clubs apart from Paredes. But they r good.

    Anyway playing in Big Club players too haven’t helped us to achieve anything so that doesn’t matter.

  12. Messi Bendetto Di maria is our forward line for copa and Icardi is put of picture now.
    Bendetto and Aguero for copa confirmed.
    Dybla should be out for copa ,weak player and creating confusion for team selection.

    • Icardi is the hottest striker this summer with real madrid move don’t think he left out after criticism faced Argentina not selecting in world cup, beneditto isn’t good from either in local league and let’s see how perform in friendlies, Icardi and lautaro 100% confirmed then fight between Aguero vs beneditto

  13. Proper backup should be there. Lanzini can compete with Lo Celso and Palacios. At the moment Battaglia for Paredes as backup? Who are the other assured backups..?

  15. I don’t understand why people say we need a destroyer and it’s a must thing. It’s bizarre actually. If that destroyer is good with ball and have extra qualities I don’t have a problem. But including a destroyer in the first eleven just for the sake of it is ridiculous. Having a destroyer(just classic old school destroyer) in the team doesn’t guarantee you a solid defence. It’s nothing but an old cliche. If you attack and defend as a unit( as they seems to be planning) then there’s no worry. Juve, Liverpool(last season in particular), Barca, and PSG are classic examples of that.

    I like this idea of midfield. Palacios and Lo Celso have to do all the work. For me ,Lanzini(fully fit and sharp) is a better option than Lo Celso in that position. He has shown that in his debut season in England. I’m not sure Lo Celso is that player.

      • Lanzini is more glass than Dimaria can’t relay on him back to back 5games with out become injured

If we look at the last two world cup and last three Copa we will find a fact that Argentina can’t make more gools.It has two reasons weak midfield specially defensive midfield as well as attacking mid field both are weak. The other reason Argentina can’t use their left wing. There is a shortage of righty winger. Messi, Demaria, Dybela, all are left thus any opponent can easily stop our attack by blocking right wing. Therefore we think about the left winger who are right leged like Mancini or De Paul so that our attack can be more sronger than ever. Another important think is that attacking midfilder like Lo Selso should play an important role like Inista….

    • Are you high? Dybala and Messi are both left footed, meaning they are RIGHT wingers. Also, it isn’t bad players which is our problem. It is a stable team. Ever since Sabella left, the last four years have been a sad and confusing story of failure and unstable formations. Not only that, but on top we have a corrupt AFA. Don’t underestimate the importance of the senior players. Masche, Di maria, romero, rojo, and lavezzi etc. are all top players. However, no team can work without a stable environment. You think France or Germany would have won with a corrupt FA and unstable team management? No! We saw that with France in 2014, and Germany in 2018. They both failed misserably. Messi and co. had a good enviornment and they had a plan. If you still don’t understand, think about how Chile won the Copa. They had only 3 good players, but they had unity.

  20. 4-3-3 is good against small teams. But against big teams we need at least 4 midfielder. Rodrigo battaglia is a very essential player for Argentina. Much better than Guido or paredes . He is injured I know. But I have seen him playing for NT .He is the best in that position.

    • in upcoming friendlies NT called only Guido rodrigues and ivan Marcone who are pure DMs so lets see how these 2 players perform between the two maybe Guido has advantage of age(24),height(1.85m) and speed only drawback is he plays in Mexican league but who knows if he performs well in NT matches he might get transfered to some good europe club

  22. If the team defends like a block and attacks like a block, particularly pocession fútbol, then i see no issue with these 3. Paredes is our busquets, technical control more tham pitbul and Locelso and palacios our box to box players. The key is the 3 forwards.. at least 1 of them has to track back every play (dimaria?). If we get 3 up top that walk (messi, kun, dybala) we will get overrun

    To much having defensive midfielder
    Before we had great mascherano
    And biglia still we didn’t look like
    So secured plus we had lack of
    Creativety in that time having
    both them in the team that is why
    I always curse past regimes not
    To use more oven ever Banega a
    long side with mascherano.
    I totally I understand why scaloni
    Want those three in midfielder
    Palacios is hard working lad
    Leo paredes and lo celso has
    Been great so far for the Nt.
    There so many ways the team
    Can be so compacte without
    Having proper holding midfielder
    Like keeping possession work
    As team well organised tactically
    So sound .
    If you have best holding midfielder
    In the world and still not getting
    Your tactics spot on you will
    Eventually lose the game.

    Personally I believe having those
    Three as midfielders will create
    Hell a lot of opportunity for our
    Forwards.

    • yeah these 3 guys are great in midfield but maybe adding a 4th midfielder who is a pure DM like Guido Rodriguez of club america fc whose age is 24,height is 1.85m and good speed who might surpise many with his performance in NT upcoming friendlieswont do any harm ,Argentina NT might perform better in 4-4-2 formation or maybe post copa friendlies if DMs like Guido Rodriguez or ivan marcone dont impress the maybe esteban rolon of genoa or santiago caseres of villareal shall get called up for NT
