Nicolás Otamendi: “I sacrificed my vacation to be able to be at the Olympic Games”

Nicolás Otamendi spoke about being with the Argentina Olympic team for the Olympic games.

Otamendi ended the season with Benfica and joined the Argentina national team for the Copa America, lifting the trophy. The 36 year old won the Copa America and flew to join the Argentina Olympic team in France for the Olympic games which begin this week. Speaking in an interview with TyC Sports, here is what Otamendi had to say:

“I came to the Olympic Games with practically no vacation. I am very excited because it is a competition that I have never played since I did not even play in the youth team in the National Team, I went directly to the senior team.

“This is something dreamed of. At the club they understood it and gave me permission to be able to be there, understanding my age and my desire. They know that the National Team is always a priority.

“I sacrificed my vacation to be able to be at the Olympic Games. I am very excited to be able to compete, reach the final and why not dream of wearing the gold medal.”

The Argentine will captain the team at the Olympic games. Argentina will play Morocco in their first match on Wednesday.
