Claudio Chiqui Tapia has confirmed that the AFA have submitted a formal complaint to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee.

AFA president Claudio Tapia and the AFA have submitted a complaint towards FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee after their 2-1 controversial loss against Morocco at the Olympics. Moroccan fans invaded the pitch after Argentina had scored their second goal of the match and players were attacked by firecrackers and bottles. Tapia post the following on his social media:

“It was regrettable what we had to experience today as Argentinians in Saint-Étienne. Waiting almost two hours in the locker room, only for our players to have to go back out to warm up and continue playing a match that should have been suspended by the referee after the pitch invasion by Moroccan spectators and the violence suffered by the Argentine delegation, is truly senseless and goes against the competition rules.

“Furthermore, the opinions of the captains of both teams, who believed the game should not have resumed, were not heard. From the Argentine Football Association, we have already submitted the complaint to FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee so that the relevant regulatory measures can be taken and a sanction imposed on those responsible.”

  1. After this absolutely unprecedented and disgusting shitshow, the only thing we can control is how we respond. If this team has 70% of the resilience and unity the senior team has, we should be able to get the 6 points needed to advance. I just hope Masche adjusts the formation and tactics, Zenon and Almada were played out of position it seems. We need to ditch this narrow 4-2-2-2 and use the wide spaces better. Giuliano Simeone looked good on the right wing, why not use him? I feel like it is a self-inflicted wound to have 3 centre-forwards in Alvarez, Gondou and Beltran and not enough purely wide players (if any) where you have to pigeonhole and find the way to use all your number 9s somehow.

  2. AFA speaking out is the right thing to do. The whole world sees what’s going on. The whole team should focus on the next matches with the highest spirit to win. Morocco and France will fail.

  3. i feel this team will bounce back. win the next 2 & book your blind date with France for quarter final. In Preolympic also, they piegonholed into a sticky wicket & finally had to beat Brazil to qualify. If Alvarez & Almada clicks, we should be able to beat Iraq & Ukraine.

  4. Why players like Gondou, equi Fernandez still playing in Argentine league? Gondou is 6’2 ideal for Europe. Gondou can easily play for any epl club.

  5. I can only say, “Guys, move on”. FIFA would turn a deaf ear on us. So let’s not lament the past. Instead let’s give our best shot in the next two games and rest of the tournament, if we feel angry, betrayed and defeated. If not, then enjoy the hostile stay in Paris and come back with heads down. Simple.

  6. When our players are attacked with firecrackers and bottles, the match should automatically be canceled and 3 points should have been awarded, regardless of offside goal and 15mins injury time.

  7. Controversy seems to follow the Albiceleste where ever they go and the haters are all too eager to perpetuate the lies and made-up stories!

    • Understandable… I mean with this recent Copa victory, haters gonna have live with the fact that Argentina will have major trophy in hand till at least 2028!
