The Argentina Olympic team lost 1-0 vs. France and are eliminated from the tournament.
Javier Mascherano’s team lost 1-0, having let in an early goal and unable to convert chances. It was a corner kick for France after only five minutes and a header by Jean-Philippe Mateta would give France the 1-0 lead and the only goal of the game.
Argentina had 15 attempts on goal to France’s eight but were unable to score. Mascherano had brought on Julio Soler, Gonzalo Luján, Beltrán, Claudio Echeverri and Luciano Gondou in the second half.
After the win, French players were celebrating towards the families of Argentina players and that ignited an argument on the pitch between both teams.
It’s always suck to lose, especially to a rival, but I wouldn’t be too disheartened. The future is bright.
Beltran and Alvarez were below average, but Alvarez has proven he’s a great striker. We just need him to regain his top form. He and Lautaro are more than enough for us in the foreseeable future. I don’t have high hope for Beltran and Gondou. Gondou played well this tournament and the qualifiers though, we will see what the future brings.
Almada certainly performed well, not set the stage on fire, but you can’t call it bad. Zenon is pretty meh… But Echeverri provided us with some hope on the wing. With Mastantuono, Garnacho, Soule, Buonanotte as well, we can expect 2-3 good wingers in the future.
Midfield was another good part of this U23 team. Equi and Medina can be ready for the NT in 1-2 years, which is already stacked with options.
Soler is the one I am expecting the most, because LB is probably the weakest position in the NT, and in need of reinforcement right now. Hope he will get a move to Europe soon!
No one caught my eyes in the defense and obviously the GK position.
Good assessment .. spot on
Yes, agreed on everything said and as looking towards future i would not be worried too much as long as ARG’s coaching at senior level remains same as many time’s it is very decissive in the end who is at helm of things, though obviously players have be on their best at the pitch to be able to win, but in MASCHE’s case…, well he clearly ain’t the one or, that good which is not any well hidden secret, though hopefully for his sake he can improve in future, but right now not good enough nor has really improved, that much either etc.
So there are plenty of players for the future, though everyone’s future will most propably not be the same, but Still in talented wise i have high hopes for the future, but like u said or mentioned right now is what Arg really need’s for the senior team iare new LB’s and even more maybe RB’s too as Molina have not really impressed since the WC like before he was voted and higly rated in Serie A and played also well with ATM until last season , when his form dipped badly, maybe due to injuries or maybe due to something else asi don’t know or can’t explain why it happened to him etc…
So Soler deffenetly one to watch as also Esquivel and Barco for LB so i won’t be, that worried about LB, though they or at least one them must intergrated to senior team obviously as it take’s time to settle as only some players as DIBU, CUTI and LICHA have had an instant IMPACT as entering to team without playing with ALBICELESTE y LA SELECCION before as same goes for MAC and ENZO, though MAC had some game’s under his belt before WC, but none or maybe few did expected such a GLORIOUS things from him, though he did not played badly with Brighton and ENZO had an instant IMPACT with Benfica and was OUTSTANDING IN WC WITH MAC AS JULIAN STEPPED UP BIG TIME TOO AND WAS SO IMPORTANT FOR ARG, though Still in my oppinion ENZO should had stayed in Benfica a bit longer and waited maybe for another team, but i do understand also why he opted to move to Chelsea etc…
Also like u said Equi and Medina were vety good and there are so many options for middfield with Varela and those who currently there or at least some of them and Almada also had a very goid Olympics as obviously Soler and Barco + Esquivel has maybe the biggest chance to get called up, because due his LB position and, because currently not sure yet who could be injected as RB,
but i truly hope some new blood injected for the RB as well and as sooner the better, because ARG has basicly qualified allready to WC or were qualified, when tney announced back then, that more teams will Qualify from SA to next WC etc…
So i truly hope now, that ARG’s coaching will start to seriously give more playing time to new and younger players, because there is not so much time as the International window’s are so rare these days with hardly any friendlies to been played and therefore a new project must start straight from next WCQ’s as playing it too safe and just not wanting to loose the VERY IMPRESSIVE RECORD, will a be a misstake, that will cost ARG in the future as now EVERYTHING AND I MEAN EVERYTHING WON BY THIS CURRENT ARG TEAM, WHICH NONE ANY TEAM WILL REPEAT as only ARG can, but it is way too early to talk about it specially, when now is the time to figure out those who will be at next WC etc…
well there is nothing more important now, than intergrating new and younger players as those who allready very old won’t make the difference nor can’t be the one’s as they were before due their age and i hope they also will look at the future of ARG together with the coaching and accept it and face the reality, which every player has to face sooner or later as some have to quit due to their prone’s to injuries alkready at very early stage’s or they just can’t stay fit enough due to their fragile body’s as some can go on and play for until VERY IMPRESSIVE old age,
but one way or another everyone will ultimatly run out of time as age catching with all of us and even with those who have been able to remain their UNBELIAVABLE CAREER’s AS SIMPLY THE BEST IN THE WORLD WHEN IT COMES TO THE WHO,E HISTORY OF FOOTBALL AS THEY HAVE TRULY WRITTEN THEIR OWN HISTORY TO THE LEVEL THAT NONE CAN CONQUER AS NEVER EVER WILL THIS HAPPEN IN FOOTBALL
, because the game changes so quickly all the time and only those who can cope with it can last with it, but NONE WILL EVER REACH EVEN NO WAY NEAR TO THEESE LEGENDS OF ARG WHO ARE ABOVE EVERYONE ELSE IN ALL TIME FOOTBALL HISTORY AND WILL REMAIN THERE FOREVER! NO MATTER WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA OR WHO EVER WILL SAY AS WVRYONE WHO UNDERSTANDS FOOTBALL KNOWS THAT THAT THEESE LEGENDS OF ARG FROM PRESENT AND PAST CAN’T BE CONQURED BY NONE !
So ARG basicly need’s some fresh legs and quality talent for the LB and RB as this is a must, not because TAGLI OR ACUNA OR MOLINA AND MONTIEL will not be able to play anymoreas obviously if fit they can,
but as time allways moving faster specially with the more older the players will get,
well suddenly things can occur and if one does not react or i would say pre-react or reach in right time, well they can’t also complain about it anymore later on,
so it is not only a coaching matter as specially with this current ARG TEAM, that has won EVRYTHING THERE IS TO WIN AND EVEN MORE SO and holds and very unique team chemistry as none may not seen before in history of football and therefore they have to solve it together as team with players and coaching taking decission’s together
Hopefully they will do this and as i said more sooner the better in term’s of future of ARG NT FOOTBALL,
so as with sour taste from Olympics in the mouth and loosing against RIVAL for who i personally have zero respect ( as i truly hope all their players with African ancestors will play more for African countries as obviously every playet player has a right to choose which nation will they play for etc…, ) but with a quite long time having been blessed with STREAK OF WINNING EVERYTHING BEEN BEYOND EVERYTHING OR ALL THE IMAGINATION
And compared to all those long year’s of suffering since 93’, well it has been QUITE A JOURNEY, THAT NONE OR WILL NEVER BE REPEATED as only ARG can, but to be able to continue with winning trophies in future like said with many members of MUNDO ALBICELESTE allready for some time so it is quite obvious everyone agreeing and also writing and talking about it obviously as FAN’s OF ARG FOREVER!
