The Argentina national team top Group A at the 2024 Copa America after the first round of matches.

Argentina are the only team to get all three points in the first round in Group A after their 2-0 win vs. Canada on Thursday. The other two teams in the group, Peru and Chile, played to a 0-0 draw on Friday.

Lionel Scaloni’s team are in New Jersey and will play Chile there on Tuesday.

  1. We always start slow and so was the case this time too but happy to win it.
    But you just can’t ignore some big alarm bells and be contend with this win before it hits us hard. Acuna, Montiel and Molina are a big disadvantage. Below mediocre. The fact Armani and Rulli can play for a world champion team is a disgrace and just reminds us of the corruption rife within AFA. Parades and Otamendi also should be relieved of their positions ASAP with a big thank you. We need more dynamic players and the team needs more dynamism as we still only looking Messi and it looks way too familiar.
    Some transfer news:
    Porto are hot on the heels of Ezequiel Fernandez but Boca are reluctant to nod till they sign a replacement (they are targeting Gary Medel and Fausto Vera). If Porto fail to sign Fernandez their second option is Matias Galarza, Argentine midfielder playing in Belgium. Strange from Porto as both Fernandez and Galarza play different roles and also the fact they already have Varela.
    Chelsea have made a strong 10 mil offer for Anselmino, which Boca have refused.

    Brighton have made a 6 mil offer for Newell’s winger Brian Aguirre, but Boca have intervened offering 3 mil plus one player.

    Soule and Barrenechea have returned to Juve but unfortunately new coach Motta doesn’t have them in his plans. He wants to sign his countryman Douglas Luis from Villa. I think the deal is completed Juve gave away Barranechea, another player plus 8 million in return for Luiz.
    Juve is waiting for offers for Soule. West Ham, Fiorentina and Sevilla interested.

    • Maybe Varela is on the move, perhaps? I hope Equi Fernadez will join Porto as i’m not familiar with Galarza, but i hope they sign him too !

      Anselmino sounds as great prospect and hopefully end’s up in team where he will get some playin’ time, not sure if he will get, that on Chelsea…?

      And for Soule i think is time leave Juve and hopefully he will find an permanent new deal either in Italy or Spain…!

      ARG and SCALONI and CO did not managed to find proper solutions to replace 3 of ARG’s fullbacks, whether is due to the limitation of tine or, that were no real canditates, well i don’t know or have an answer to that, but Molina really need’s step up now as i do hope Montiel will also,but not so sure of those 2 as, maybe Acuna can play an still good 45 min +, but i don’t think 60 min and therefore i will go with TAGLI, though Acuna might be better offensive….

      Well, right now to get more dynamics injected i quess only options are Garnacho and Carboni and maybe Nico G., perhaps..?

      As maybe against faster team’s ( not necessarily, though against Chile and Peru, yet as both are more kind of aging team’s…) ARG should only start with MESSI and bring ADM as substitute, but in otherhand many of the time’s it has been ADM for ARG who get’s thing’s going and i truly hope against Canada both suffered a lot from the horrible pitch and, that none of theese kind pitches will be used anymore in this COPA…., but i quess we will only finfåd this out in the coming games…? VAMOS ARGENTINA !

  2. We won everything in last few years but I’m not convinced with Scaloni’s defense selection. Only Romero, emi and Otamendi is world class. Others are pretty avg.In wc Netherlands scored 2 goals in last mins. France did the same. That means there is problem in defense. Mainly in fullbacks. Players like Montiel and Pezzella should be dropped.

    • As long as they runaway from thier current clubs (Juve and Athletico Madrid) which have not valued them much. Physically they would all fit and survive it, if it happens at all? Out of the emerging talents Soule has a comparative advantage and qualities of replacing Di Maria in the long run.
