Lionel Scaloni has the best numbers when it comes to coach of the Argentina national team.

Scaloni is the most “effective” coach in the history of the national team. His first match as coach of the Argentina national team was a 3-0 win in September 2018 against Guatemala.

He has coached the Argentina national team a total of 61 times and according to TyC Sports, he has the best numbers. Here are the numbers of the top five coaches of the Argentina national team:

Lionel Scaloni: 75.4% (61 matches)
Diego Maradona: 75% (24 matches)
Gerardo Martino: 73.5% (29 matches)
Manuel Seoane: 73.3% (10 matches)
Guillermo Stábile: 72.2% (127 matches)

From those five names, three of them have won trophies. Manuel Seoane won three Copa America titles, Guillermo Stábile won six South American Championships, two Pan American Games and one Pan American Championship. Lionel Scaloni has won the World Cup, a Copa America and a Finalissima.

  1. Yes, a bit surprised not to see the names of Menotti, Billardo, Sabella or even Pekerman/Tocalli… well, i do understand it is about stats as ddr1123 well said, that stats can be missleading too or viceversus etc…

  2. This goes to show how misleading stats could be. Seeing Maradona at number 2 is really surprising and a travesty of reality. Under Tata we played decent for one copa, but failed overall. Winning needs some luck too.
