Every manager can have an off game once in a while. Last game was Scaloni’s first screw-up since his appointment as our interim coach. He did realize his mistake and changed his formation in the 2nd half . We played much better after we switched to 4 in the back and with some luck we could have scored more. May be constant criticism from fans for being an ultra defensive coach got to him and that is why he tried different formation ,but it didn’t pan out well for him. Nevertheless, I am really looking forward to the next match. A thinking manager will always acknowledge his mistakes (unlike fraud Sampaoli) and if Scaloni can turn things around and beat a well balanced side like Morocco then that will be a big confidence booster for the players, staff & the fans for the upcoming COPA.

yeah that was a good result against saudi arabia u20 and this current argentine u20 team seems better than last u20 wc team and have been runnerups of sudamericano u20 tournament compared to previous argentine u20 team who barely qualified for last u20 fifa wc so hopefully this current argentina u20 team can atleast reach semi finals or finals (hopefully win the fifa u20 wc 2019) but it all depends on players and coach fernando batista and some good luck

Argentina was actually better than france in that game but they wasted 2 clear cut chances and hit the post once.
3 men midfield what Scaloni was doing for first few game was on right track for me. He lost Palacio and he changed it. He just needed to stick with the formation and look for players for back up he required in every position. Parades-Palacio-Lo Celso is enough unless it’s a big team you can always change one there with more defensive minded midfielder. Croatia was doing it WC and was successful. So was doing France too. But with disgrace and shame I would say we have similar option also way better players in attack but we tend to try AGAIN 3 Men CRAP. In attack Messi-Aguero/Martinez and on left to balance it out also for width I would prefer a winger who has eyes for goal also pace and willing to track back. I hope Scaloni gets back from that carp but certainly he wasted a friendly maybe there. Parades would work in our midfield but he needs a hardworking box to box player with him against weak team and tough tackler and hustler against Strong team. Lo Celso has to be the more advance attacking midfielder who connects with our attackers and run for space and arrive in box late. I know it sounds like game but I don’t see why it ain’t gonna work. Guys its been almost a year Scaloni has the team. He fortunate to not have any pressure at all because the team is not in competition. If he hasn’t find a system yet when you think he gonna find it? I don’t believe in deeplying playmaker. There are too few successful examples. Not only you need a pure DM next to him but also at least 1 box to box player who can compensate a bit. Can we really afford that currently? We are all aware of Paredes’s qualities but does he deserve that the midfield to be built for him? It seems costy.
If I can choose, I prefer a 4 men midfield with a pure DM(guido, nico Dominguez, Ascacibar, Battaglia) plus a defensive box to box(Palacios, Almendra, Robertone), 1 half playmaker half winger(Vargas, Lanzini, Pity) plus 1 half 8 half winger(Zaracho, Pereyra). Simple formation with diversified profiles.
In fact Paredes is not a player who comes under any of the above mentioned positions, that’s his curse too. He is not a 5, he is not a pure Enganche either. Well if we can put him in a bracket that’s a Deeplying Play maker. He may not be suitable in all formations that’s for sure. But in his role unfortunately we don’t have that many good options either. Reynoso may be (but more advanced Enganche i guess). But he Should be in our 23. And played according to the Formation and opponent. He need a classic DM near him for sure.
Agree! 4 man midfield is a must with the talent we have… parcedes has to be the #5 (even though he lacks in tackling), box to box locelso, playmakers lanzini or palacios and winger dimaria (for the Copa at least), Messi and icardi up top and el kun has to be involved at least as a substitute.

He has 2 options, either keep on trying over and over again with the top names players with different complicated system and ends up with no plan like Sampaoli. Or he doesn’t care about the stars and goes with some simple but efficient solutions.
Couldn’t agree more. Also , just a less flashy stable system will be the best in my opinion to get the group started to play as a TEAM ! That way the younger lot will get confidence to play alongside the big names and then they can build from that. Changing all the variables will not help in any kind of logical deduction.

NTs like us should play a simple 4-4-2 or something similar. A formation that every professional player understands. The duties and responsibilities are clear and you get a head start. In tournaments it about staying afloat. So do not concede. Defend as a team and work and run hard. Then you need fighting spirit. The desire to win, whether for the country, for the team or for yourself. Different people have different motivation.
In terms of player selection, the coach should have 2 players for each position. Then study the opponent and play to the your own strengths, and capitalize on opponent’s weaknesses.
We have a lot of issue with the GK situation. Athletico Madrid has the best GK coaches in my mind. They Keep producing great GKs. They go and get a good talented one from lower leagues of Europe and keep nurturing them into best ones. If we cannot hire, at least we should consult German Burgos.
The structure and leadership of AFA is the main problem. Its creates a culture of pointing fingers and no one taking responsibility. Hence players don’t have to either. Mennotti is the latest debacle. It seems he wants Messi out and want to play with local players.

Exactly. I have always said so. 442 or 4231 is used by most of the top teams. I am very skeptical for very technical players put in a very deep position. Often not good idea like hierro as CB or guti as DM. A fullback should know tackling. A regista should defend well. You can play sexy football in a national team only if the players are trained in the similar system since U20. Germany playing well 343 because most of their players are playing in the similar system with their club.
343 is more risky in modern era for me. There is always a acore of space behind those 2 wings players. A smart coach always try to drag out wide those 3 men defense to expose them. It takes years of practice and test to perfect it. I had little bit faith on Scaloni that he might do some wonders but he disappointed me with his last game. There never should have 3 men crap. Once would argue we don’t have fullback for 4 men defense and blah blah. So didn’t has France until World Cup. Now it is their strength. 4 2 3 1 by using 2 wide midfielders is the way to go with technical midfield strength, easy transformed into 4 4 2 maintaining defensive stability or 4 3 3 to emphasize attacking powers.

Player should be picked on merit ( current form ), nothing else. Klose was 36 and scored in WC semifinal in 2016 and finally won a WC after losing in countless final and semifinals in Euro and WC. When presented with good chance, he’d score unlike Benedatto or the likes of Palacio and Higuain. Romero is benchwarmer and while he’s good during 2012-2016, he has been in shit form throughout 2018 qualifier. Rulli is the best option.
Also, one of the reason why Argentina couldnt compete with any decent teams in recent years is because the players are way too static and slow , simply dont cover enough space… yet some of these slow midfielders and defenders keep making overlapping run like Mercado and Tagliafico while they’re not even half as fast as Jordi Alba. They left their post, opponent intercept the ball and they got the goal within few seconds.

This seems already more balanced with a real DM and Lo Celso in a more advanced position, Pereyra as a winger will involve in pressing and defensive task. It should be between 442 and 4231. Scaloni should stay with the same formation from now on. Time is very limited and try at least to reach semi finals for copa.
On Paper it always looks good,It always does, But when its out there its a different Ball game. its a Classic 4-4-2 PEREYRA, MARCONE or Guido RODRIGUEZ can definitely add more Muscle in the Midfield. Pereyra can play in various positions in midfield that makes him a useful player.
