The Argentina national team have won four trophies and lost twice in five years.

Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina national team continue to make history. In the last half decade, Argentina have won a World Cup, two Copa’s America and a Finalissima, losing only two times in the process.

Those two matches being against Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup and against Uruguay in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

  1. Argentina has always been up there, only difference with this crew is that team is finally winning, finishing. Thanks God, and that’s credit to Scaloni, he’s found a way to put team in the position to win. I still remember those nightmares in 05 and 07 against Brazil and especially, especially, that Andriano last last minute score with Argentina up 2-1. Goal, game’s over, penals, Argentina loses. Why being greedy is justified. Want Argentina tk win in 26 and win the next Copa too. Happy time and Congrats to the entire team.

  2. So happy for the Copa, but still greedy. My wishlist for the coming two years:
    1 beat France in the Olympics final in Paris
    2 beat Spain by 6-1 in Finalissima next year
    3 win 2026 WC final vs England or Germany
    Then football will be completed for eternity.

  3. As Scaloni said a few years ago- “We cannot rest on our laurels”. It’s time to say thank you to the old guard and start replacing them with new younger talents, for what it’s worth, we will qualify for the 26 World Cup. Use the qualifiers and friendlies to slowly bring these kids in.

  4. In next few years most difficult thing will be to find replacement of di maria. I don’t think nico is replacement. May be Soule, Garnacho or Franco Mastantuono (though he is only 16).

    I think best option is Soule. He is already 21. In next wc he will be 23.

    Garnacho, Soule and Carboni will take place in future.

    • Just change the structure 4-3-1-2 diamond, Barco and Molina will give the width (Barco an extra playmaker too) Echeverri in 10 from left half space Lautaro in the centre and Julian from right as second striker (his preferred position earlier)+good system players for the wings with speed and directness as sub like Garnacho and Nico Gonzalez+Almada or Messi as the sub of the “10”. Messi will be a cheat code for this role at 39 years old too.

      • Echeverri is too young. I don’t think he can play in next world cup. Di maria is legend. It will be so difficult to find his replacement. Next world cup will be tough for us. But after than I think so many players will take retirement and new player will join

  9. I’m happy with all our players, everyone fought hard. Players don’t have a great day every game. But we were able to compensate, stay alive and eventually win.
    Everyone did their part including me as I received this tournaments best Chef award. I even dislocated my elbow and tore my bicep, no joke, but I kept cooking and eating.
    It’s not often that your team wins and it’s very rare when your team is always winning…. Therefore be happy for these moments and stop the bs. What would happen here if we lost ? 😂

      • The arm injury is a long story. But it’s black and blue from the bicep to the forearm. And it’s basically our of commission for a month or two. (Business men don’t tell their trade 😉)

Nicolas tagliafico is the most underrated left back we had a such long time the guy he will be around but acuna must go now, hate or love me you messi fans we played much better when messi went of the guy the is greatest football I ever seen but he needs to go now, we can’t keep playing 10 men especially in the world cup
    Enzo played well last nigh and he improved as the tournament went on plus I think his best position is deep lying playmaker, MacAllister what a player he is
    De Paul misplaced so many passes during this copa Soon he will be replaced too, cuti Romero is the best defender in the world and finally I’m so happy licha martinez and Lautaro Martinez for different reasons

    • currently licha and romero are the best center back pairing in the world.. we are fully secure in this department for the upcoming 6-7 years (with senesi as backup). our midfield is stacked for the upcoming 10-15 years with plethora of talent.. the only concerning area is the full back especially right back..

      • We need to have a backup for both Cuti and Licha. If, they are injured, we should not be left stranded. We need backups for central defenders, backup for Tagliafico, replacement for Montiel/ Molina, replacement for Di Maria, backup for Messi. We cannot not build a strong castle on such a strong foundation. Spain could not. Itali and Brazil could … but decades back. In Scaloni we trust.

        • We have Medina for taglifico….probably montiel and Molina will play the next WC…Soule for Di maria….Messi back up could be Echieverri…For Otamendi, pezella and guido…Scaloni will bring in Nehuen Perez, Balerdi and Alan Varela…VAMOSSSSS

      • Bro, enzo and macca played over 100 minutes and did well it’s normal when fresh legs came in they do better with a tired team, man messi thing is reality we have carried him in this tournament, his teammates made a great sacrifice for him, there is no great way to go than this after he won three major international tournament within last three years everything has ending and I’m afraid this messi time to retired from international football weather we accept or not

          But now, using your logic, as soon as Enzo and MacA came off, the team looked much better.

Maturity is highly correlated with prudent emotional inteligience. Lo celso and Gonzalez were villians for thier selection only to turn out as unmatched heros the other day. Thank God that we have a serene coach who can see the flow of the team not the nity gritty.

  11. It’s been a long time since I posted something here. I am not sure if this happened to me only. I have waited a long time for an Argentine World cup winning moment,since the first match I saw between Greece and Argentina in the 1994 World Cup. Finally, when we achieved it in 2022. It got me exhausted, finally we got what we dreamed of. But does it happen if we achieve something which we always dreamed of, does it make us exhausted?? I still follow all Argentina matches but something was missing, But today again I have to say something. The impact of these 4 back-to-back trophies is like a dream I never thought would come alive during my time. Congrats all…

    • Yea, he’s one of the reason why our team was really strong mentally. He gives the team an extra motivation. The squad is playing to defend their country plus trying to win it for Messi.

    • Here are some big pandit is there they pretending to be argentine lover but always critisise Lionel Messi whenever they get slightest of opportunity. The sacrifice Messi made for the argentine national team no body can never match. Retirement of Messi will decided by Messi himself not the others.     1,Right and Left back are not up to standard .Acuna ,Tagliafico should retire and montiel isn’t world class

      1. Tagliafico was our best LB in this tournament, he will continue in the qualifying for us. Barco to replace Acuna soon.

      3. Enzo is not at his best but he has improved, we’ll see how he does in September. Way too early to write him off.

      4. We don’t have quality wingers? Nonsense! Nico G, Garnacho and even Carboni who although not a winger has done well when asked to play there.

  17. 19 year left back Julio Soler, part of the olympics squad is close to joining FC Porto.
    So now we’ll have 2 young left backs in Europe. Their development along with RB Agustin Giay’s (signed by Palmeiras) will be pivotal for Argentina at the world cup. We seriously need to complement our top CBs and GK with some decent fullbacks.
    Soule close to Roma, so has to compete with Dybala?

    Argentina looked better and fluid once Messi left the pitch. If this is a sign of things to come then I am excited.

    • Its not the first time that happened. When messi cant play our game speeds up x2 and we win many more 5050 balls in midfield. Leo is now Riquelme tactically. As long as his vision, passing and free kicks are sharp we can use him, and I say as 70th min sub not a starter, just like dimaria was used kast two tournaments. Otherwise, he will ruin his legacy ny insisting to play like penaldo did with Portugal

    • Agreed on CUTI being the best player of this tournament, though DIBU and LICHA with TORO JULIAN EASILY in the TOP 5 as i was so happy ARG dared to play their own game and played it well compared to previous games as one the key factors for this victory was pressing Colombia hig up, which i was hopina for, though expected more pressing from Colombia, but i quess ARG being active preventend Colombia’s pressing and also distrupt their game plan too as this was the way of play, that would make ARG win against Colombia and they did as i hoped for and i think everyone played well and none showded any side of weakness as Montiel and RDP shut Diaz exactly lime they did to Neymar in last COPA and also improved his game big time, when entering the game, but yes CUTI and LICHA were MASSIVE in every game with DIBU too and in the final the whole team played so much better as team as forexample in terms of passing and creating chances and they truly deserved to win too ! Kudos to Coaching once more as it is AMAZING what they achied with theese players together as COMPLETLY UNIQUE IN HISTORY OF FOOTBALL ! VAMOS ARGENTINA ! DALE CAMPEON !

      • Cuti Romero always plays his heart out with the NT and Licha too. We are also glad that we have some solid CBs who can act as cover. But these guys clearly deserve better fullbacks to along side them. Hopefully our coaching staff work immensely on the full back positions and the LW/RW positions. So very happy to live these moments after years and years of disappointments.
