Argentina would win a record 16th Copa America title with Lautaro Martínez scoring to give them the 1-0 win vs. Colombia in the final.

The first half was delayed by an hour and 20 minutes and it was Argentina who had the first chance of the game. A cross in by Gonzalo Montiel and the ball fell to Julián Álvarez but his effort went wide.

Possession of the ball was mostly split and Colombia would have an effort which struck the outside of the post. In an attack for Argentina, Lionel Messi received a knock and twisted his right foot.

He would continue the first half which would end goal less.

The second half would start and Messi would be substituted out shortly after the start. In came Nicolás González in his place.

Nicolás González was lively down the wing for Argentina. Both teams created chances to score and Lionel Scaloni would bring on Nahuel Molina, Lautaro Martínez, Leandro Paredes and Gio Lo Celso on for Gonzalo Montiel, Julián Álvarez, Alexis Mac Allister and Enzo Fernández.

There were no goals after 90 minutes and it would go to extra time. In the second half of extra time, Argentina would win the ball in midfield and it would fall to Gio Lo Celso who would pass it to Lautaro Martínez and he would score to give Argentina the 1-0 lead.

Lautaro Martínez would score his fifth goal of the Copa America, becoming the top scorer. Argentina would hold out, win 1-0 and be crowned as 16 times Copa America champions!

  1. I know I am late but I watched the match live on the net.
    Congratulations Argentina!
I am very happy again due to Argentina winning the copa for the record 16th time. But also sad for Di Maria retiring. It feels empty. I have kind of watched his entire international career – From his win in 2008 Olympics win to 2024 Copa win.

What a player! Legend! I wish he stayed a little longer.
I hope at least Messi stays till next world cup.

Some thing similar happened with Indian cricket team. They won the t20 cricket world cup just a few weeks back(it’s a smaller world cup(every 2 years) compared to the big one(ODI-every 4 years) but still a big tournament). Several senior Indian cricketers retired from the t20 format. Although they will keep playing the ODI format.

  2. I said somewhere on this site, that this would be Lautaro’s Copa. He has a good tournament and made up for being injured in the World Cup , happy for him!

  3. Everyone played very well today. This is a huge team win. Congratulations! I am confident this group will continue succeeding in the next World Cup.

  4. Unbelievable feeling. Words can’t express my happiness. From 2002 we have suffered a lot till 2019. Then, the last 3 years made us forget all the long nights and suffering after each exit / final loss in the major tournament.
Thanks, Dimaria – Legend. We can’t see any player like him again for Argentina.
Messi is getting the cups that he rightfully deserves.

  5. Vamos. Argentina win it again in style. I can’t expect more than that..It was also destiny for AD Maria to play one of his longest game with Argentina in his last match after Messi injury.
    Congratulations Scaloni and co…!

  6. Absolutely unbelievable..no words..takes the addiction to the shirt to eternal level..to some extent the happiness is more sweeter than world cup as it confirms our hardwork and the group goes down in history as one of the best teams of a particular Era.. thanks for all gods..thanks for all mundo friends..vamosssss..chhheeerrrsss..

  7. What a fairytale ending to a thriller. We have won all trophies we competed for since 2021..and we join Spain to win three consecutive championships.

What a team..full.of Grit and nerve… I cannot think of a better way to describe the team than ‘pain and gain.’

  8. 2 great moments from Paredes before the goal, world class composure, brilliant through ball from Lo Celso and killer finish from Lautaro, a real team goal
