April was a great month for many top Argentine players. We had to narrow it down to the following six: Lionel Messi (Inter Miami), Julián Álvarez (Atlético Madrid), Lautaro Martínez (Inter), Matías Soulé (AS Roma), Franco Mastantuono (River Plate), and Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool). We had to leave out players like Thiago Almada, Valentín Castellanos and Emiliano Buendía, who also had a strong month.
Lionel Messi was crucial for Inter Miami in their comeback win against LAFC in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions League. He scored twice against French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, securing his team’s spot in the semifinals of the competition.
Julián Álvarez scored four goals in five matches for Atlético Madrid — one against Sevilla, two against Valladolid, and one against Rayo Vallecano — climbing to fourth place in the La Liga top scorers list this season.
Lautaro Martínez scored in both legs of Inter’s Champions League quarterfinal clash against Bayern Munich, leading his team to the semifinals. He also found the net in Serie A against Cagliari.
Matías Soulé scored a stunning goal in the Rome derby against Lazio and added another goal against Inter, earning a spot as a regular starter for AS Roma.
Franco Mastantuono scored one of the greatest goals in the history of the Superclásico for River Plate and is now being strongly considered for a call-up by Lionel Scaloni to the Argentina national team — at just 17 years old.
Alexis Mac Allister scored a brilliant goal in Liverpool’s victory that clinched the Premier League title. The Argentine capped off a dream season with the Reds.
