River Plate look to advance in Club World Cup vs. Inter

River Plate will look to advance in the Club World Cup as they play Inter on Wednesday.

The Argentine club leads Group E as they are tied on four points with Inter but lead due to a one goal difference. A draw or a win would have River Plate in the next round of the Club World Cup.

Lautaro Martínez has two goals in two matches for Inter, scoring against Monterrey in their 1-1 draw and against Urawa Reds in their 2-1 win.

  1. Argentinian clubs need to completely change their approach to the games. I have always been admiring the fighting spirit but enough is enough, show it when it matters, not to engage in useless and ugly situations. We have a lot of talents, teach them to play nice and respectful football first. Boca and River are absolutely disappointed with their ugly play. That will only hurt our future players’s chance to go to top clubs in the Europe.

  2. I have been utterly disappointed by River and Boca this tournament. I had more expectations from River though. The biggest problem is the discipline. You cannot lose 3/4 starting XI players in a tournament like this. Druissi is a big loss in injury. But team lacks creativity and finishing. Mastantuno is raw and he would be a better AM than winger. I hope Alonso grooms him well cos he could be an asset.

    • Exactly. Acuna played sublime, but his temper is atrocious. This behavior again is despicable from Argentinian players. We seen this with Netherlands on the biggest world stage. Be a man and gracious when you win and accept when you lose! Look at that last goal Inter Milan scored two players trying hard to slide tackle and almost injured each other (Borja, Pezzala) – Bastoni just glided past them and then shot and two other River players almost hurt each other sliding as the ball hits the net. At that point Acuna just let it go and accept defeat – but no, he has it in his mind that he is going to fist fight the Dumphries and he trys to chase his to the parking lot! What a joke!

Mastantuono showed character trying to break up fight and handshake- about the only thing he showed today on the field – if anything, it helps how he is perceived and he can build on that.

Anyways all 5 Brazilian teams advanced 3 Argentine teams (including Atletico Madrid – a European team) out! There will be a ton of Brazilians going to Europe from this tournament!

    • I am totally agree with u brother about Franco Mastantuono.
      This kid is super talented
But he is not a good winger
His best position will be Attacking Midfielder..
      The future is bright

      1. Franco Mastantuono
      2. Claudia Ecchevery
      3. Alavaro Montoro
      4. Aaron Anselmo
      5. Nico Paz
      6. Matias Doyle
      7. Garnacho
      8. Ian Subiabre

  3. Been a while since I logged on here. My observation in this tournament and Inter vs River game:

    1. Inter is weaker since departure of Inzaghi — Lautaro needs to leave this sinking ship of a club.
    2. Mastantuono is too slow to be a winger, exposes the ball too much when dribbling (easily displaced), forces a lot of bad passes – but he has confidence like Lamela (but Lamela a better dribbler even in close control). I truly hope Xabi Alonso develops him as he is still raw.

    3. This tournament is showing why Brazilians are rated more in Europe than Argentinians – this was the time to show up and Boca Juniors wet the bed. Even the Atletico Madrid is full of Argentinians, with an Argentinian coach – utter garbage from them – I hope River goes further and starts to display good football. Also, Meza is the luckiest footballer to still be playing professionally.

    4. Speaking of Atletico Madrid, this is the first time Julian Alvarez has NOT won a trophy in a calendar year! Simeone needs to be sacked and replaced by Jurgen Klopp, or a real manager that doesn’t play negative football. Simeone makes excuses about other clubs spending money, yet he wasted over $120M on Jao Felix to make him a makeshift left back (completely destroying that kid’s development).

    5. I hate to see Messi playing in Inter Miami and would love if he can go to a Real Betis type team on loan before WC for conditioning as Inter Miami is just quickly deteriorating his abilities. I remember Ibrahimovic once said he needed to go back to Europe from LA Galaxy because even training on a team is better preparation that playing in MLS.

    • The lack of top level game definetely impacting Messi’s form. His shooting and dribbling just isnt there. He can still score regularly on MLS but WC would be 10 times harder.

River and Boca players seems to lose their cool rather easily. Everytime things dont go their way, the players starting to implode. More disappointingly, guys like Acuna , Montiel and Pezzella are veterans and WC winners. Acuna seems to be angry at something the whole time.

AM will never improve until they get rid of Simeone. The guy’s managing style is pretty much out of date . Julian would easily scores 40+ goals if playing for team like Barcelona.
