Rodrigo De Paul: “There are always things to improve and correct”

Rodrigo De Paul spoke after the Argentina national team’s 1-0 loss against Ecuador.

De Paul started the match for Argentina and following Nicolás Otamendi’s red card, De Paul became the captain. Speaking to the media after the loss, here is what he had to say:

“There are always things to improve and correct. The game got a little complicated for us, but I think we were superior in the second half.

“We had a great qualifying round, we finished first, and we’ll take that too. What we do seems easy, but we always maintain a serious attitude with the team and with the bar we set for ourselves.

“Throughout the qualifying round, the team played very good fútbol.”

  1. Argentina has too many mistake-prone players in the squad right now. Otamendi, De Paul, Montiel, Nico González, Mastrantono, and Paredes are all disasters waiting to happen. If these players keep starting, we’ll have no chance of winning another World Cup. Scaloni needs to stop protecting them and finally give chances to players who actually deserve to start.

  2. not surprised, mac, de paul, paredes, and a good chunk of this lineup has struggled to shine at club level this season. also think lautaro is still shell shocked from struggles with inter miami, he has not been the same since.

i suppose it is surprising that we did not concede more than one goal but 0 shots on target just means we struggle to find our drive. we cannot have such inconsistency in performances just because we have qualified for world cup, i will never forget the shock we received when we lost that opening game to the saudis.
