Lionel Messi has congratulated the Argentina U20 national team on making the final of the U20 World Cup.

The Argentina national team won 1-0 against Colombia to qualify for the U20 World Cup final on Sunday. Messi’s Inter Miami club team mate Mateo Silvetti had the goal for Argentina as Diego Placente’s team won their semi final match.

  1. Argentina youth team for more than a decade has been plagued by a shaky defense & gk. Placente has really been able to fix that in this tournament . Barbi had atleast 3-4 solid saves in semis. He has really stepped up after the Australia game error.
Inspite of not having Rosario’s Juan Gimenez who was the Conembol CB partner to Ramirez, Placente has marshalled limited backline resources & displayed smart tactical adaptability. Originally started with Fernandez & after his red card , drafted Pierani. Also moved to 3 man backline with the versatile Perez as required . After Pierani’s injury, Villalba stepped up. Villalba’s tackle should go down as the best defensive moment of this U20 WC. It bought back memories of Mascherano’s tackle on Robben in WC14 semi final. He has pace & is a good counterfoil for Ramirez who is technically good while lacking speed.
Btw it looks like Morocco’s starting GK who has had a brilliant tournament may be doubtful for finals.

  2. Playing against Nigeria, Mexico and Colombia in KO stages and not conceding a single goal..very impressive..Placenta done a magic with this boys.
So many of these players are great talents..soon NT material..in few years..

  3. Big congrats to the pibes, first final in 18 years and it was a hard fought match.
Placente has shown big creds in the u17 and now the u20s and I would love to see him join Scaloni, Aimar et al in the senior NT set up.
Prestianni was the most impressive player on the field during the match and Delgado was (as usual) the unsung hero and the most consistent player throughout the tournament. Also, I have to say that Silvetti is the most intriguing of all the players thus far, I mean Sarco, Subiabre, Carrizo all had flashes throughout the tournament but Silvetti has shown big individual skill (goal vs Nigeria), pace (goal against Mexico) and now killer finishing against Colombia. Not sure if he’s going to be a world beater (hard to tell with such things) but the kid is one that we all have keep our eyes on.
