River Plate lose 3-0 to Atlético Mineiro in the Copa Libertadores semifinals

River Plate lost 3-0 to Atlético Mineiro in Brazil in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores semifinals. It was a tough defeat for Marcelo Gallardo’s team as they will now have to overcome a three-goal deficit next week at El Monumental.

Germán Pezzella and Franco Armani started the game, while Marcos Acuña was ruled out just minutes before kickoff due to an injury. Manuel Lanzini, Maximiliano Meza, and Pablo Solari came on for the “millonarios” in the second half, but Claudio Echeverri and Franco Mastantuono remained on the bench throughout the game.

In Atlético Mineiro, coached by former Argentine defender Gabriel Milito, the Argentines Rodrigo Battaglia and Fausto Vera played the full 90 minutes.

    • Aston Villa currently topped the CL table with 3 straight wins and no goal conceided.
Liverpool is second. Good for Dibu and Mac.

  1. Currently Diego Simeone is the biggest disgrace of a manager. Julian Alvarez had great match but his striking partner Sorloth cost Atletico 3 points. DePaul at latter stages was complete letdown; responsible for 3rd goal. The penalty awarded was controversial.

    • De Paul is one of those who doesnt seems to care about his weekly performance anymore after winning everything with the national team. Enzo seems like that aswell. Instead of delivering good performance, he made headlines with that racist chant and getting banned from driving.

      • Osvaldo, I know you’ve been doing videos with Roy for a while now and I really like your analysis on the albicelestes’ games but I still want welcome you here on the boards. Most of us here aren’t Argentinos (but rather Argentinos at heart!) so it’s nice to have a born and bred Argentino adding some perspective on occasion.
