Benítez was on the bench for Crystal Palace in their penalty shootout win against Liverpool to win the Communtiy Shield. For Liverpool, Alexis Mac Allister came on as a substitute and missed a penalty kick.

The 32 year old recently signed with Crystal Palace but has yet to play a match.
