Julián Álvarez scores a free kick for Atletico Madrid in 2-1 loss vs. Espanyol

Julián Álvarez scored a free kick goal for Atletico Madrid in their 2-1 loss against Espanyol.

Álvarez had the first goal of the new season for Atletico Madrid. Diego Simeone’s team were awarded a free kick and it was the Argentine who took it.

He would curl the ball over the wall and beat the goalkeeper to give Atletico Madrid the 1-0 lead. Espanyol would score twice to get the win.

Thiago Almada and Giuliano Simeone would also start for Atletico Madrid.

  1. I watched Atletico’s game yesterday. They really deserved to win. It’s the first time in a long time I saw Atleti playing good football. Yesterday’s loss is very understandable; a few players in the lineup were new to the system and need sometime to integrate into the system and if that really happened in the early stages of the season Atleti will be one of the best teams to watch and enjoy in this season. I am planning to watch every Atletico game in this season. Alvarez, Baena, and Almada (ABA) trio will be deadly if they get good chemistry.

  2. Alvarez was very good, also very unlucky to hit the post which would have sealed the game for Atletico! Almada was okay, understandable that it was his first game but J.Simeone didn’t have a good game. Made several mistakes and his decision making and finishing reminded of Garnacho. Is he even ready to be a starter for Atletico?
