Equi Fernández joins Bayer Leverkusen until 2030, speaks on move

Equi Fernández has joined Bayer Leverkusen on a deal which will keep him at the club until 2030 and the player has spoken about the move.

Fernández joins the Bundesliga team from Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia. The club announced the move on Monday and that he will wear the number six shirt.

Simon Rolfes, the club’s managing director of sport, had this to say about the move:

“In Ezequiel Fernández, we are getting a player who is very confident on the ball and strong in challenges, and who will be of great benefit to us with his power and aggressive style of play.

“In addition to his robustness and physical resilience, he has excellent game intelligence; he is clever and seasoned despite his relative youth. This special combination makes him a highly interesting player for us. Ezequiel will invigorate the competition and greatly increase the quality of our squad.”

The Argentine also commented on joinnig the club:

“Now I want to further my career in Europe at an internationally renowned club. Bayer 04 currently has three of my Argentinian colleagues in its squad: Exequiel Palacios, Alejo Sarco and Claudio Echeverri. They told me about the club culture and the high sporting standards here in Leverkusen. I am very confident that we will all achieve significant victories together.”

  1. Majority of the Aston Villa fans on X are furious with Emi after the deadline day drama. Sancho refused to move permanently to AV in a swap deal with Emi. Now they will be teammates (awkward 😒). Not to mention he will surely get boos from the AV fans. He kind of tarnished his legacy and reputation at the club. I hope Emery keeps him in the starting XI this season. I’m still surprised that other than ManU, Gala & some Saudi club no one tried to sign him.

    • Dibu Martinez should avoid such unnecessary dramas especially at his age; world club is just around the corner. Pushing for a move away from Aston villa didn’t make any sense; ( especially where no big clubs approaches him). Aston villa showed him all the love hence you can’t blame the fans for being furious with him. Hope he remains focused this season.

  2. He had 1 goals and 4 assists in Saudi league last season which make it clear that CMs aren’t to be judged based on goals ans assists only! The ability to keep possession, dictate the tempo of the game and create gaps for teammates is what a proper midfield player is supposed to do. G/A is just the added bonus!

Also, Manchester United seems to have used Emi to get their goal keeper and now Emi is stuck at a club where he will have to do some damage control to rebuild relationship with his fans manager ans club management!
