Valentín Gómez scored for Real Betis in their 1-1 draw against Girona.
Gómez got his first goal for his new club since joining them from Vélez Sarsfield. With Girona leading 1-0, Real Betis were awarded a corner kick and the corner found the Argentine who scored to draw Real Betis level.
The 22 year old started the match as a left back for Real Betis. Giovani Lo Celso also started the match.
For a CB Gomez is doing pretty well as a LB. I went back and watched a good chunk of the last 3 games by Betis (where Valentin has been playing LB) and I have to say he’s pretty good and I hope to dear god that he continues because the LB position is a problem for Argentina, Tagliafico isn’t getting any younger, while Medina (who was starting to play LB for Marseille) is injured and Scaloni’s experiment with Nico Gonzalez seems doomed from the beginning, not to mention Scaloni’s bewildering (intentional?) ignorance of Alex Barnebei in Brazil…….so yeah, again, the LB position is an issue and Gomez might be a potential solution so needless to say the kid just jumped right up to the top of my “keep an eye on him” list.
deserves a look in NT if he maintains this form. from a CB, he seems settling into a LB role for Betis.
