Simeone spoke to the media following Atletico Madrid’s match. Julián Álvarez was whistled prior to Atletico Madrid’s game against Villarreal and was also whistled as he was substituted into the match.
After the match, the Atletico Madrid fans stood on the pitch to applaud the fans and Diego Simeone stated after the match that the decision to have Álvarez leave the pitch after the match was the club’s decision. Speaking to the media after the match, here is what Simeone had to say:
“The club decided that Julián should not approach his team mates to greet the fans. The decision wasn’t that of Julián Álvarez, it was the club’s which decided to separate him and keep him away so he could head straight to the locker room.”
