England coach Thomas Tuchel spoke about losing to the Argentina national team at the World Cup.
Thomas Tuchel coached England at the World Cup and lost to Argentina 2-1 in the semi finals. England took a 1-0 lead but Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez scored for Argentina to send Lionel Scaloni’s team to the final. Speaking on the England app, here is what Tuchel had to say:
“It’s my scar. It’s the players’ scar. I have to live with it. No one is more hurt than me. No one wanted it more. It can now endlessly torture you and think ‘if I’d have done different substitutions then we would have won the match’. You just don’t know it.
“We relied on our brotherhood, our mentality and individual quality. Argentina have all that as well, brotherhood, mentality, it means the world to them especially against England.
“The level of craziness that Argentina put in, change after change after change, one offensive change after the other. They would have never made these changes if they were not 1-0 nil down. It was a 3-1-6. Whoever plays a 3-1-6?“They play 3-1-6 and we struggled. We conceded a big chance right before the water break. We are waiting for death. We are not defending properly in our 4-4-2.
“We could have done it and maybe lost 2-1 and people will go like ‘is he crazy? He did it against Norway, he finished the game with five. Why not finish the game off with five?’ That was just my solution to the problem. I tried to help. You don’t try to implement anything for your ego.”
