There’s Something Explosive About Roulette…
There’s something about roulette that makes it seem romantic and special. Maybe it’s the spinning wheel, or maybe it’s the tinkling ball, waiting to drop into it’s slot. Or maybe it’s just the slick mechanism of the contraption. Who knows…
The game had also loaned its name to the deadly practice known as Russian roulette, where a revolver cylinder containing a single bullet is spun, somewhat like a roulette wheel, and then pointed at the head of the person holding the gun. A click means you win. You won’t have time to hear about it if you lose.
Russian roulette only works with a revolver having five or six chambers. In this way the location of the bullet is unknown, and the chances of survival is around five to one. However, sometimes there are those who confuse the slim chance of survival with a revolver for the same with a semi-automatic pistol:
“The humorous Darwin Awards, which grant their dubious honor to those who have “removed themselves from the human gene pool because of an act of extreme foolishness,” awarded a man who played Russian Roulette with an semi-automatic pistol, apparently unaware that his odds of the firearm discharging were not one in six but six in six, or 100%.”
Online roulette, however, has much better odds of a player surviving. And the occasional loss, should it happen, does not remove large portions of the skull.
