As part of the 50 days, 50 Argentina World Cup moments, we will be counting down the top 50 Argentina moments at a World Cup using the daily number.

We are just 17 days until the start of the FIFA World Cup and in 17th place we have Claudio LOPEZ scoring in the 17th minute versus the Netherlands at the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

It was a very memorable match for Argentina, although not for the right reasons. The Netherlands took the lead in the 12th minute through Patrick KLUIVERT but Claudio LOPEZ scored five minutes later in the 17th minute to make it 1-1 going into half time. In the second half, Arthur NUMAN got a red card which gave Daniel PASSARELLA’s men a man advantage. However, Ariel ORTEGA got himself red carded right before the 90th minute which meant that both teams were playing with ten men.

Lost in the middle of it all was a rocket shot by Gabriel BATISTUTA which hit the post. In injury time came one of the best goals in the history of the World Cup. Dennis BERGKAMP received the ball near the edge of the Argentina area, he beat Roberto AYALA and slotted the ball behind Carlos ROA to send his team into the semi-finals.
