Lionel Scaloni is not expected to start the two strikers. According to Gastón Edul, Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni’s Plan A does not include starting both Álvarez and Lautaro at the Copa America.

Scaloni is going to pick one or the other.

Scaloni also commented about Germán Pezzella and Guido Rodríguez, also talking about the team. Here is what he had to say:

“Pezzella and Guido Rodríguez responded well and they will be there.”

In regards to the match vs. Guatemala:

“This match is going to be the last test to finish determining the list (for the Copa America). The important thing is that the guys are well, tomorrow we will see them. One thing is training and another thing are matches.”

About when he will announce the team for the Copa America:

“I don’t know when I am going to name the list. It’s important to know how the players are going to finish the last match.”

“He’s well, he’s training with us. He’s a kid who we believe should come in when the match gives us a chance.

“We have a lot of expectations of him, but we have to take him the way we believe, talking to him and that he has to do things much more often. He has that quick 1 vs. 1 that he has to do more often, that he has to carry out.”

Alejandro Garnacho did not play in Argentina’s 1-0 win vs. Ecuador on Sunday.

Lionel Scaloni has confirmed that Lionel Messi will start for Argentina vs. Guatemala.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has stated that Messi will start for Argentina on Friday. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday in Washington, D.C, here is what Scaloni had to say:

“Leo (Messi) will play from the start. If he can play the entire match, even better.”

Messi did not start in Argentina’s 1-0 win vs. Ecuador on Sunday but did come on as a substitute. Argentina will play Guatemala on Friday.

Romero and three more Argentine players make up the top five of those that have travelled the most. Per FIFPro, Romero has travelled 139,130 km since the start of the 2023-2024 season until June 2, 2024.

In second place is Rodrigo De Paul with 126,293 km covered. Harry Souttar of Australia and Leicester City has travelled 127,140 km and is the only player that is not from Argentina that makes the top five.

Julián Álvarez covered 122,265 km and Alexis Mac Allister with 119,975 km rounds up the top five players.
