Argentina U20 team named for COTIF tournament in Spain

Argentina U20 national team coach Diego Placente named his team for the COTIF tournament in Spain.

Diego Placente named 22 players for the tournament which begins on Sunday. Argentina were drawn in Group B with Valencia, Elche, Brazil and Mauritania.

Placente’s team will play Brazil on Sunday, July 21 and on Tuesday, July 23 against Levante. Their third group stage match will be against Mauritania on Thursday, July 25 and their final group stage match on Saturday, July 27 against Valencia.

The last COTIF tournament took place in 2022 with Argentina being crowned champions. Argentina have won the tournament three times, in 2012, 2018 and the last edition. Here are the players named for the COTIF tournament:

Argentina national team to pay homage to Ángel Di María in September vs. Chile

The Argentina national team will pay homage to Ángel Di María in their World Cup qualifying match vs. Chile in September.

Argentina will not be calling up Ángel Di María for their next matches in September as the 36 year old has retired. According Fernando Czyz, the reigning World Cup, Finalissima and back to back Copa America champions will be paying tribute to Di María during that game.

Ángel Di María’s wife Jorgelina spoke about the idea of him potentially playing 11 minutes for Argentina against Chile. Speaking in an interview with Radio La Red, here is what she had to say:

“It’s a great idea. He and the people who were unable to make it to the Copa America deserve it. I like it and so does he.”

Di María played his last match with Argentina in their 1-0 win vs. Colombia in the Copa America final on Sunday.

Lautaro Martínez scored the goal against Colombia which won Argentina the 2024 Copa America.

Martínez had a performance no Argentina national team fan will ever forget. Being substituted into the 2024 Copa America final against Colombia, Lautaro scored the goal which won Argentina the final.

Ángel Di María’s performance in final match for Argentina at 2024 Copa America final

Ángel Di María had a Man of the Match performance in his final match for Argentina in the 2024 Copa America final.

Di María played his final match with the Argentina national team in the 2024 Copa America final against Colombia on Sunday. It puts an end to a truly stellar career where he had won and scored in the 2021 Copa America final, the 2022 Finalissima and the 2022 World Cup final.

With the Argentina national team, in addition to the World Cup trophy, two Copa’s America and the Finalissima, Ángel Di María also won the U20 World Cup and an Olympic gold medal.

Argentina Olympic team win 5-0 in friendly match

The Argentina Olympic team won a friendly match 5-0 vs. Petrus Flo, a team that is made up of French players that are without a club.

Javier Mascherano’s team are in their final preparations for the Olympic games which begins on July 24 in France. Luciano Gondou scored two goals in the first half with the rest of the goals scored by Lucas Beltrán, Kevin Zenón and Claudio Echeverri. Here was the starting eleven:

Argentina have been drawn in Group B with Morocco, Iraq and Ukraine. They will play the first match on July 24 vs. Morocco, their second on July 27 against Iraq and on July 30 against Ukraine.
