Emiliano Buendía gave an interview where he spoke about being back with the Argentina national team, his relationship with Emiliano Dibu Martínez, his dream of playing with River Plate and playing for Real Madrid’s youth team.

Buendía has had a good season with Aston Villa. Getting regular playing minutes, the 26 year old has returned to the Argentina national team as he has been called up for the matches against Panama and Curaçao.

Having missed out on the World Cup, Buendía is back with the team and speaking with ESPN_Argentina, he commented about his return. Here is what he had to say:

“I’m very excited to be back. That’s why I work every day, to have this chance to be in the national team. Now that it’s my turn, I’m really looking forward to being there, enjoying it, learning and continuing to work so that good things keep coming my way.

“I can’t wait to be there right now. The best is expected, a huge party. The best celebration in the world is expected. You saw what it was like when all the players arrived. I lived it from here but the movement of the people, the passion, everyone’s enjoyment is something unique. It makes you proud to be Argentinian.”

He was also asked about his relationship with Emiliano Dibu Martínez:

“We are both very competitive. Whoever loses in training always ends up being angry, but in a good way. Trying to be that passionate to help and for the benefit of it. We really don’t like to lose and we get angry when it’s us.”

Being a fan of River Plate:

“I’m from River (fan of River Plate), a family of River since I was young. I like to follow them, I try to follow Argentine football even though it costs because of the time difference. With Emi (Martínez) we don’t talk (about it) much. Yes, of some interesting things that could come out on social media. I know he is a fan of Independiente but not much more.

“I always dreamed of playing with a ball, playing with River. I never closed the door but today, my head is in Europe. Tomorrow, we will see. I would like it because it’s the club I support but we will see in the future.”

In regards to Real Madrid:

“At 11 year old, I had the opportunity to go to Real Madrid. I always wanted to play football, it was my dream as a child. I spent six or seven months alone with the person who took me and opened the doors of his house to give me the opportunity to play there and after seven or eight months, my family was able to move to Spain. In 2009, I lived with my whole family in Madrid and I made my career in the youth teams until I was 17 or 18 years old. From the age of 19 or 20, I came to England to play football here.”

De Paul gave an interview to El Larguero where he had commented on the upcoming Argentina matches and Diego Simeone coaching Argentina. In the same interview, he also gave his thoughts on Lionel Messi. Here is what he had to say:

“Lionel Messi is an extraterrestrial. When you think he is going to lose it (the ball), he comes out. When you think he doesn’t see you, he leaves you one on one with the goalkeeper. When you think he’s tired, he has one more gear.”

In regards to Lionel Messi’s contract situation with PSG:

“He should come to Atleti!”

He was also asked about Gio Simeone being called up to the Argentina national team:

“We know Gio from a few of the call ups and I believe, like Cholo, he was a guy you see a lot how he shows his feelings. He has a very special love for the national team.

“He has been doing very well in Europe for a few years, which is not easy. But well, now he is in a team that I think deserves to be called up because of the level he is playing at. It’s very well deserved.”
