AFA and Win Investments team up to let fans invest in players

3

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) and the tech company Win Investments have launched a new project that will let fans and investors from all over the world invest in football players through blockchain technology.

The launch took place at the Lionel Andrés Messi training center in Ezeiza, Buenos Aires. It follows a partnership announced in February 2025 between AFA and Win. Thanks to this project, all football clubs in Argentina — from the top league to regional divisions — can now access Win’s financial system through the AFA.

The goal of the project is to help clubs get money in advance by turning their player development rights and future transfer earnings into digital tokens. These tokens can be bought by fans and investors. This system is supported by FIFA, making AFA the first football association in the world to officially use this kind of tool.

“This is a very important project for all of Argentine football and for every club,” said AFA President Claudio “Chiqui” Tapia. “Thanks to FIFA, we now have a way to allow fans to be part of a player’s journey, no matter the club or country. It’s a big step forward.”

Tapia also added, “Now anyone, anywhere in the world, can discover a young player and invest in their future. This is something new in world football, and today is a very special day.”

Valentín Jaremtchuk, CEO and co-founder of Win Investments, said, “This is a historic agreement. AFA is the first football federation to make our solution official. Now all Argentine clubs can use our system, and fans can be part of the transfer market.”

He also mentioned that fans can invest in big names like Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, Lautaro Martínez, and Enzo Fernández. “More than 650 fans have already won through our platform, and some of them joined us at the event,” he said.

Fans can use the Win app (on Android and iOS) to invest in player tokens starting from just 1,000 Argentine pesos — less than one U.S. dollar.

Facundo Buonanotte scores for Leicester City in 2-2 draw vs. Nottingham Forest

Facundo Buonanotte scored for Leicester City in their 2-2 away draw against Nottingham Forest on Matchday 36 of the Premier League.

The Argentine came on in the 61st minute and, 20 minutes later, with his team trailing 2-1, received a pass from Jamie Vardy. He drove into the box, faked a shot with his left foot, then finished with his right into the back of the net to equalize for his team.

After a strong second half of 2025 in which Buonanotte earned several starts, the 20-year-old Argentine has seen limited playing time in 2026—a season that will end with Leicester’s relegation to the second division.

Javier Mascherano on Inter Miami’s loss: “The responsibility is all mine”

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano spoke at a press conference following their 4-1 away loss to Minnesota, which marked the team’s fourth defeat in their last five matches.

“We didn’t play the game we wanted. In the first half, we had control and possession, but two plays—especially due to lapses in concentration—caused us a lot of damage in a match we had under control,” said Mascherano.

Regarding Marcelo Weigandt’s own goal, Mascherano stated: “Both the second and third goals really hurt us. The second one, because going into halftime down by just one goal keeps you within reach of an equalizer—and the way we conceded it, through a mistake, made it worse. The third goal came when we were in a good phase of the match and it killed us.”

“We initially controlled the game, but it’s never easy to attack a team that defends deep like Minnesota did. There wasn’t much space to attack in the final third, and without space, it’s very hard to create clear chances.”

“Every time we were attacking, unfortunately, we were very vulnerable on transitions after losing the ball. That’s what worries me the most. If the players’ performance drops, the responsibility is entirely mine. In the end, there’s a coach—and if the players aren’t convinced by what the coach is proposing, it’s the coach’s fault.”

Inter Miami’s next match is on Wednesday, May 14, away against the San Jose Earthquakes.

Lionel Messi scores for Inter Miami in 4-1 loss vs. Minnesota

Lionel Messi scored for Inter Miami in their 4-1 away loss to Minnesota on Matchday 12 of Major League Soccer.

With his team losing 2-0 in the 48th minute, the Argentine legend received a pass from Jordi Alba inside the box, controlled it, and fired a low, left-footed shot across goal to pull one back for the Florida side.

Javier Mascherano’s team has now lost four of their last five matches. They were eliminated from the Concacaf Champions League last week and currently sit fourth in the Eastern Conference standings, with one more game to play than the other teams.

Paulo Dybala spoke about making the Argentina national team for the 2022 World Cup and his penalty in the final.

Dybala was part of the Argentina national team which won the 2022 World Cup, having made it despite being injured shortly before the start. Speaking in an interview with Sports Illustrated, Dybala revealed what he told Lionel Messi after Argentina won the World Cup. In the same interview, he also stated how he was told by coach Lionel Scaloni that he was going to Qatar for the World Cup. Here is what he had to say:

“I see him approach me and I said: ‘I’m out.’ And he came up to me and said: ‘train peacefully, you’re staying’.

He also spoke about Argentina’s match against Mexico:

“When Leo (Messi) scored the goal and then Enzo sealed the match, it was a moment for us when we gained a lot of strength because that match gave us peace of mind to qualify, knowing that, well, Poland was coming next.”

The Argentine also spoke about being substituted on in the final against France and having to take a penalty kick:

“When I came on, when coach Scaloni called me, there was very little time left. So I knew my substitution was for the penalties.

“He had a lot of confidence in penalties for me and that’s why he put me in. So I was very focused. I knew I couldn’t miss, my entrance was to take the penalty kick.

“Obviously the pressure is huge because you are either a hero or a villain. If you miss, everyone will remember that you played two minutes and that you missed the penalty.

“When I saw Coman, who missed before me, I remembered what Dibu said (kick to the middle).

“And I said ‘ok, I have to kick it to the middle’. And I didn’t hesitate, I didn’t change at any moment, I went straight, I put the ball and I knew I was going to kick to the middle.

“Then when Tchouaméni missed and Leandro (Paredes) scored, we said: ‘It’s ours, we’re going to be World Champions.'”
