Giovani LO CELSO and Federico FAZIO spoke at a press conference on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s match.

The two players have yet to take part in a single minute at the 2018 FIFA World Cup but are there to help the team. LO CELSO, who plays in France, had this to say about the match:

“I try to contribute from my end where ever I play. Obviously I want to play, just like any other player but I try to add to the team day by day.

“We know we are up against a big rival. They have very good players, they were undefeated in the group stages. But we have our guys and I believe it’ll be a big match.

“In the group stages, we played different types of teams. France, with the space and speed that they have, can create something big but we are a respectED national team. We will have to take the necessary precautions and take advantage of what we have. Now, every match is a final.”

Federico FAZIO stated that winning is important and just as much as having a winning mentality.

“The winning mentality is important in any aspect and what you have to do is continue with that mentality, become used to winning and go in as if every match was the last.

“We are a very united team both on and off the pitch. We knew that the win would come by working the way we worked.”

When asked if Argentina are now favorites to lift the trophy, FAZIO had this to say:

“We don’t think about that, we think about getting as close as possible. We have to think about the next match, to work in the best way possible to get to the quarter finals and think only about what’s coming, which is what makes us get closer and what makes us grow as a team.”

Neither of the two men feature in the rumored eleven which we posted earlier for Saturday’s game.

    Argentina’s only strength are our plethora of attacking players and we bench them all in our most important game 😂😂😂

    I feel like every game we’ve played we’ve walked into it purposely handicapping ourselves.

  2. Today’s Morning session was attended by all 23 Players. Enzo Perez is 100% fit & will start the match against France. Team spend decent amount of time on Spot Kick as well.
    The only remaining question is Higuain (Plan A) or Pavon (Plan B) ?
    The Plan C is irrelevant now because Enzo perez is match fit..

    As per the rumours, it seems Plan B beats Plan A & it’s almost an official confirmation away..
    That is, Messi will start as False Nine against France. With Pavon in Right & Dimaria in Left.

  5. In my opinion, our strategy must be similar to 2 legged UCL Knock outs. Where smaller teams trying to shut down Giants in home match & trying to score crucial away goal in second leg. I am not saying Argentina is inferior team. But our strategy must be that of an underdog..

    I hope Enzo will be ready. We should use the same team, if at all altering that must be in front, ie, the reported Pavon to Higuain switch.

    We must use the Sabella strategy. Make sure they have zero chance to score goals. It is possible. We did it (yes, almost) against the best team in 2014. I don’t see this France anywhere near to that team. But the perception created is otherwise. France is starting the match as favourites. It must definitely be got into their head. We should use that to our advantage.. frustrate their attackers. Shut down supply to Giroud. We can dominate the midfield with numbers. We wasted Acuna & Salvio against Croatia. We won’t repeat the mistake..

    It is possible to score a lone goal in the auspicious moment in probably second half. And seal the match.. hopefully everything will go in favour of us.
    Again, Defence is the only key.

    • I second that and the only way you can utilize this generation is counter attack. Remember we were deadly in qualifiers during fantastic 4 era but unfortunately injuries impacted the whole strategy.

      Don’t get me wrong I don’t want to use all 4 at the same time,but if we can focus on the counter attack strategy, we may have a way to win this cup.

    • Exactly.If we try to dominate possession and build up from the back,that is gonna play into their hands.We should sit back,absorb the pressure and unleash Pavon,Di Maria and of course Leo in the break.Pavard and Lucas leave a lot of space behind.We should be able to create a 3v3 .My only doubt is whether Kante will follow Leo like a shadow,if he plays in the false 9 position.If so,the likes of Banega should take advantage of the space left behind.

    And counterattack or long ball can do it for us

Have been waiting for that match to happen from him for an Argentine match, And that match was against Nigeria. Will he be against showing up against France??     See most of the teams we expected (I for definitely expected something similar) are going to the next round. Japan is a surprise but Germany knockout is a shocker which changed the entire draw. One side is too weak one side is filled with the Super powers.. Its been a crazy WC regarding matches (Spain drawn to Morocco, We drawn to Iceland, Mexico beat Germany, Japan beating Columbia, Senegal beating Poland, Iran almost got to next round etc etc) But still almost all favorites got to next round…

    Sweden are officially the GIANT KILLERS of World Cup and outside too they have always been. They took out Italy,Netherlands (Before WC itself) and Germany. Wholly Cow that’s 3 Super powers. Similar teams who always play mysteriously was Bulgaria and Croatia.

    • No player can stop Messi throughout the game. He will still find way to score. To shut Messi out of the game, you need big game plan. Defend as a team, cut all the balls to him, continuously pressure him with at least two players. Still Messi may find the space to score. To succeed stopping Messi they need luck too.

    Still the world says France will win. You know why..? They want Argentina somehow be kicked out for one reason or other. There are Messi haters, Argentine haters, other team lovers…etc.

    We thrashed Korea 4-1, scored two past Greece and only Enyema’s goalkeeping made Nigeria lose 1-0 to us only.
    We smashed Mexico 3-1 in the round of 16 as well with Tevez’s goal being one of the goals of the tournament.
    Higuain peaked out in that World Cup and we never saw that Higuain playing for us again.
    Messi and Otamendi played out of position yet Messi still didn’t do a bad job although he was unfortunate not to get a goal.
    The point is, how is that team lead by a manager with tactics even so called worser than Sampaoli manage to be so rampant in scoring goals?
    Why we have struggled to score in World Cups after 2010?
    Even in 2014 when we went to the final our goalscoring prowess wasn’t that excellent either, relying on Messi’s goals in the group stages and winning only by that odd goal in 2 knockout matches and penalties in the semis.

  17. The way things stand now and the way other teams played in first round , it will not be wrong to say it is Brazil’s cup to lose, its a bitter truth. Argentina may be comes second in this regard after Brazil but our coach needs to use his resources well, you just can not ignore better player only because they are young. World cup comes after 4 years, you have to use the best players you have at the current moment, who knows who will be where after another 4 years. We are not using too many better young players, hopefully we don’t have to regret about it in future.

    • Don’t be surprised by the surgence of Belgium. From time and time again i would like to remind that i’d put my money on them beating Brazil.

    I watched Espn and my God how they bash on Argentina, especially Steve Nicol.

    I would like to have Di Maria in the centre sow we could also attack with speed. Sabella played him in that position. But he would also have to track back and work his socks of. We know he has the lungs for it. He would then be more involved in the play.

  20. As a Barca fan I must admit Real Madrid’s (spit to left) Varane is better than Umtiti. Also Giroud can be handled with someone like Fazio to neutralize his threat in the air. Rojo does fairly well too. Griezmann can be made to suffer with some effective switch-marking. Dembele (if he starts) should be cut off from all forward running passes.

    We need to swarm Pogba who IMO has been getting stronger in this WC. He is a real threat.

    If we play with fire in the first half and score that ALL IMPORTANT first goal, that momentum will be on our side and we should inject fresh legs and creativity to keep France on their toes in the second half.

    I feel they will definitely score one so we must score the first and a second preferably back to back..if not on after their first.

  23. Mascherano is human. He does mistakes. He was nervous at the beginning nobody can deny that BUT he fights. He is a Warrior who tries to fight his way back into the match. We don’t have many players in our current squad who are willing to fight like that this is a fact and we should not deny that. My only concern is our path to the final. Our Team isn’t young and doesn’t have enough stamina in my opinion. French team didn’t have to win against Denmark. Their coach changed 6 players for the Denmark match. Everyone writes off Argentina at the moment. I hope our team can prove them wrong and lift the trophy once again.

    • Well, out of all the 16 teams remaining in the competition, France and Denmark played the worse third group game. This was by far the worse game at the world cup. You’d think the ”bench” players would want to make a mark when given the chance..If this France team is so talented the second tier players should have done much better against Denmark.

      • Kid I don’t know man Only few teams kind of impressed me in this tournament or no let’s be honest none of them did. Belgium was the only team but who was their opponent? Best match was Spain vs Portugal in my opinion. This world cup is kind of weird.

    • Well said. Any argentina 11 that plays like the Nigeria first half is a world-beating team. Personally I’d prefer more calculated substitutions.

  25. Crespo was being interviewed earlier today by Argentine pundits and he was eluding to how Lanzini was a key piece for Sampa, and in forming chemistry with lo celso. Found it interesting and obviously take it as sign we wont see much of him.

    Cant wait for lanzini, dybala, lo celso, to start manning team. Hopefully the next 4 years Argentina can cement chemistry and some tactics.

  26. Actually France just played their worst game vs Denmark, almost 0 shot, seems to have no plan in attack and just looking for Giroud with long pass. I don’t know if they wake up yet. So timing is good to play against them as they are not at 100%. As we all know, their talisman is Kante, he has the workrate of 2 players. Varane did quite well too, his intervention always clean but there was not much challenge.

    Except Mendy, I am not impressed by their fullback so far, their leader Griezmann never finished a game, Giroud, Pogba and Mbappe only played well during half of a match.

    Unless they come back in time, I guess they must give up the possession and do high pressing, we need to be very careful during the transition.

    The 1st 30 minutes of 2nd half against Nigeria was a total failure. We lost too much the ball, Di Maria and Enzo played really bad. Meza didn’t bring any added value and even made worse. We cannot allow that happens again vs France.

    Whatever the outcome I hope they play again with this Grinta and honor their country, it’s not impossible to beat France, actually now is the best timing, Vamos!

  27. Football is all about timing, momentum and peaking at the right time. The winning momentum launching pad Argentina wanted against Iceland didn’t happen until the needed win against Nigeria and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Moreover, Nigeria was the perfect team to play against heading into the round of 16 game because they’re tantamount to the France national team. Playing Nigeria gave Argentina an in depth look into the France national team. And while the French players man for man maybe more talented than the Nigerian national team players, one thing for sure is that both teams have the same characteristics when it comes to athleticism and physicality. Argentina is at a good place right now and all the pressure will be on the so call ‘’talented’ French team against the well-oiled experience Argentina team.

    Argentina did against Nigeria what you would normally get from teams like Germany and Italy (pre 2006 Italian teams) at the world cup, the never give up mentality even on the brink of elimination…Finally, I get to witnessed an Argentinian team fighting to the end even during periods of the game when the team did not have control of the proceedings. Against Nigeria, Argentina faced their adversity head on and prevail in the end because of the never give up mentality the players showed during the game.

    What we saw of Germany was the contrary to what Argentina did against Nigeria. I expected to see Argentina imploding under pressure like what the Germans did against South Korea and the Germans finding a way to win like what Argentina did against Nigeria. Like a boxing match, Argentina pulled even in the first round, got knocked out clean in the second round, the team went into the third round wounded, they were bleeding from the eye (Mascherano), but despite the adversity, the players dig deep down and found a way to win the third round putting three points on the board. It all came together at the right time for Argentina. When all hope seems lost for Argentina I still believed the team would prevail. I watch the world cup games on Telemundo (Spanish channel), and listening to the commentator (I think it was Jaun Pablo Sorin) breaking down in tears after Rojo scored, I myself had tears coming down my face.

    We read a lot about how this French team is talented and that at some point they will come good. How long have we been hearing and reading about the France national team coming good because they have all these talented players? So France is upbeat against Argentina because they will finally get to play against a team who opens up? Yea, let’s all pretend like Peru and Australia wasn’t playing attacking football against France who barely hang on to win those two games. I have nothing against France, my problem is that the media overhyped and overly exaggerate their players. The way how people talk about France you would think they are the World Cup defending champions or PSG winning the last UCL title with a bunch of French local players who are currently on the world cup roster. This is the same French team that tied against Luxembourg, the worst team in UEFA, tied with USA kids, struggle against Australia, struggle against Peru and put on a lackluster performance against Denmark. And while Argentina haven’t been spectacular in their group, the performance against Nigeria was ten times better than anything France did in all three of their group games. If anyone can come here and say France is playing good at the moment, then they’re lying to themselves. Does this mean France can’t come good on Saturday? Sure, but I haven’t seen any evidence of this to date. The whole France having all this talent is farce! I mean, a lot of these French international players haven’t even been in tough game situation where they had to dig deep which built character. Moreover, Raphaël Varane is the only UCL winner on this current France national team roster I believe with the absent of Benzema. The French League teams last season have been poor and out of form; Monaco both in UCL and domestically and PSG in the UCL.

    I respect all teams but in no way should fans be afraid of this current France national team. This Argentina team is currently loaded with players who have a lot of experience playing in major tournaments and have won many trophies playing at Youth and club level compare to France. With Argentina previous winning record against France, the team should do enough on Saturday to pull off a win. If this was the 2006 version of the France national team with Zidane and Ribery, then I would have possible tilt the scale in France direction but this is not the case on Saturday. France is hoping that so call talented names on paper and media predictions will get them over the top. France will have to play hard for this game and do so with plenty of fight and heart because I know one thing for sure, Argentina will show up on Saturday! The French players to me just seems to be playing for club contracts, that’s all I see when I watch these guys in action during the world cup, it’s like a big audition to get transfer from one major club to another or from a small club to a major club.

    • Aside from Griezmann who on that team is a stud? Pogba is a bigger name than player, Mbappe is a nice player but even PSG would tell you LoCelso is a more critical cog at this point, Verane is a good defender but not great, so what am I missing? Can France win, sure, but I don’t know why anybody looks at them and is afraid. Shit Columbia beat their ass and the USA tied them. And that group was easy as shit. They get 3 crappy teams.

        • N’zonzi deserve the call up over Rabbiot given his performance in last season UCL. Rabbiot is a ballerina just like Pastore..Matuidi? I never like is ”ugly” unorthodox playing style. For me, Matuidi passing and dribbling is average at best. What Matuidi brings to the table in my opinion is athleticism in midfield and on the wing..France is missing Benzema imo..

    • Good read. Inspiring. Our only problem is us. Hopefully we choose correct players and the real Argentina shows up at Saturday. I really want our players to play their hearts out as they did against Nigeria. Enjoy the game without pressure. We definitely need a plan A and Plan B because it won’t be easy even French players and Media and people are afraid of Messi. They surrendered themselves to Messi even the game not started yet so i say unleash the beast and get em when they are scared. Watched french training today, i expect a lot cross and set play. Hope Otamendi and Rojo get well prepared for that plus we need to play as a team. I want Messi to encourage the lads again as he did in last game and demand them for the best.

Yes France have all the talent in the world but we have a vast majority of experience and quality, and for me their are only a few players in that France squad I will take serious and that is “griezman”, kante and blaze matuidi, those for me are the only players I take serious from that France team.

      • but then again we need to look at our weaknesses, and for me and many will probably differ with me, but dybala needs to be our attacking midfielder, because he can take a lot of pressure off messi, and we all know dybala can do that for us. As for the partnership between banega and mascherano, I think that partnership is very good, so that can allow us to have enzo perez playing from the bench and he(enzo perez) are a very important player for us.

      • as for the defence, I still feel we need to replace otamendi with fazio, because otamendi lacks tactical awareness and composer, yes he otamendi is robust an quick but he(otamendi) were found out of position on many occasions against nigeria.

      • as for mercado, he has done good but even he was exploited in second half by the nigerian players, and that’s why I feel sampaoli need to play ansaldi from the bench to take over from mercado in second half, because it’s clear if you watched the game you would have seen that mercado does not have the stamina to play a for full 90 and with the speed of France I think sampaoli must let ansaldi help mercado in that right back position.

      • as for our number 9, it has to be aguero because higuan has missed a sitter once again, against nigeria.

      • ”afa supporter” I like Dybala but I didn’t see him taking pressure off of Messi against Brazil, Uruguay and Venezuela when he had the chance..For now Dybala is a sub at best as long as Messi starts for Argentina..Moreover, prior to the world cup, I haven’t been impress with Dybala performance with Argentina, he wasn’t even that convincing against Singapore. Dybala can have his moments at the 2018 world cup (like what Gotze and Schurrle did for Germany back in 2014) without being a starter..Why do we need to experiment with Dybala and Messi going into the game against France? This makes no sense, I’m sure if Dybala and Messi worked in training both would be starting together.

        I don’t know about Fazio, in Italy the game is much more slower and defensive which makes Fazio defending against his opponent easier..Fazio should be a closer substitute, he would have been burn by the Nigerian players if he had started…Otamendi is easily a better defender than Fazio without a doubt. No need for debate on this subject.

        Ansaldi is not better defensive than Mecardo. The only advantage Ansaldi might have over Mecardo is in his attacking side of the game. Argentinean defenders are always going to be exploited..So you think if Ansaldi start for Argentina he will never get beaten by the opponent? Mecardo is a solid plus he carries UCL experience into the world cup. I like Ansaldi but he is not that impressive defensively especially against pacy players.

          • nevertheless, as must as I hoped that sampaoli will be the right coach for Argentina, it is fair to say that he has gut he’s (sampaoli) tactics wrong and as we all know the line up against nigeria was not completely sampaoli line up, but he (sampaoli) still have time to make things right.

          • as for dybala, I think your wrong their, with the fact that dybala admitted in a recent press conference, that he and messi can play together. And to criticise dybala on previous performance is wrong, because here we have aguero who have always been poor for Argentina, but now he (aguero) looks in better form and Shape and he scored an important goal for us against Iceland.

          • as for fazio and otamendi, I think you have that one awfully wrong, knowing the fact that you claim about champions league experience but you neglect the fact the otamendi was awful for city in champions league, where a fazio was at the Heart of roma defence when they beat Barcelona too 3-0.

          • All we need is the boys to be confident. When we are confident and not unsure of ourselves unlike the first 2 games, we will do well. The biggest opponent Argentina faces tomorrow is Argentina themselves, not France.

  28. I know I am one of the knuckleheads in here.
    Yes we have many problems and I am not happy with the organization and state of the team starting from the president, coach, players and the decisions that are being made.
    But let us make peace and hope and support the team no matter who plays.
    I believe all of us in here are true fans of this team and we can fight later on.
    I mentioned in here that our biggest obstacle is to pass the group phase and we achieved that. We can be dangerous in the knock out stages. I don’t see why we cant beat the other teams.
    All I know now is we are not going out without a fight.
    Messi has the historic chance to become the greatest player.
    Beat France.
    Beat Portugal.
    Beat Brazil.
    Beat England.
    Maybe it is too selfish of me but that would be the sweetest thing.
    In the end the title is what counts and it doesn’t matter who we play against.
    One other thing is that we are getting underestimated by all the football world, but we can better and will fight.

    • It’s not bad until you say, beat England.. They’re a good energic team at the moment with loads of young talents, but they don’t have it yet to get to the final stage of world cup. Maybe semi final, but final look less likely.

      But if in any chance they could reach the final, it’s a high possibility that they’d reach that victory.. These guys does not much experience biggest stages, but neither do they’ll get much pressure, who’d expect them reach the final anyway.

  31. I have to agree that on the ball Masche will cost us. Especially if he insists on taking as many touches as he did against Nigeria. For me, if he wins the ball his first thought should be to shuffle the ball to Banega and let him distribute it. At this stage in his career, what he thinks he can do with the ball is worlds apart from the reality that actually transpires on the field.

    First of all I haven’t called any player a PIG. Go read my comments first before opening your garbagehole.
    I have crticized many players: Mascherano, Rojo, Romero, Otamendi, Banega, Aguero, and Chokerita.(I’ve berated Caballero but I think it’s not his fault-it’s solely Sampaoli’s) and managers : Sampaoli being the latest.
    I don’t consider it as anything malicious or offending to anyone. Many people berates and criticizes the players. Its normal. Your chief Kid, “General of the positive police” does it often. Ask the older ones about that. Rulli,Paredes,Lanzini,Meza to name a few that he has berated. I haven’t berated any country here, or their people( players excluded, haven’t abused them; didnt endorse killing innocent people,children and women.   53. I wouldn’t start Lo Celso in this game. Have seen him only in a few big games (olympics and champions league) and he has been nervous and made very bad decisions. So maybe Enzo will be a better fighter protecting our defence with Masche (who is a sure starter like it or not..) and the creative responsibilities lie on the shoulders of Banega. 10/10 performance against Nigeria!     1. Higuain needs to keep pressing the French CBs like its the end of the world.
    2. Di Maria needs to run like Forrest Gump to contain Mbappe.
    3. Mascherano needs to pass to blue and white shirts, not to the other team’s players like he was doing against Nigeria.
    4. Banega needs to show up again (which I have massive doubts).
    5. Tagliafico needs to be himself again.

    If all these 5 clicks, we’ll win.

    • All the 23 players cannot start. Also, you cant keep rotating the starting x1 in WC. Keep the winning x1 and alter slightly according to needs.

        • Anyone who stays on his feet is better than the FRAUD Otamendi. Only good quality he possess is the aerial aggression, evrythin else is ordinary or below par. He looked overall good (to you) is coz the pacey fullbacks, centrehalf partners rescued him umpteen times. Last year he didnt have a Walker or Mendy( I know he was injured majority of the season) to bail him out.

        I say Di Maria because the job of Enzo was to tuck in when Messi was wide, and when Messi tucks in, that he go out wide. But Enzo doesn’t have the pace to play out wide, but Di Maria does. He can cut in while Messi plays wide, and cause all kind of mischief for the French Defence. Hernandez will not hold Messi, now imagine him holding Messi and Di Maria! Impossible!
