Emiliano Martinez talks about Arsenal future, Argentina national team

58

Emiliano Martinez has had a stellar second half of the season as he won the FA Cup for Arsenal and is now looking to solidify his spot with the team and with the Argentina national team.

Martinez became a starter for Arsenal after regular goalkeeper Leno had to be sidelined due to injury. The Argentina man has impressed and spoke with Sportia about his future with the club. Here’s what he had to say:

“If Arsenal doesn’t assure me 35, 40 matches and I don’t play as a starter, I’ll look for minutes elsewhere.

“I don’t want to have any illusions. I have an important future with the club for next season which begins in two or three weeks. I don’t have much time to think.”

Regarding the Argentina national team:

“I fought against the great goalkeepers of the world throughout my career. I’m ready to fight with anyone. Those from the Argentina national team are great goalkeepers but I don’t feel greater nor less than anyone of them.”

  1. Very bold & strong personality by Emi!! Love it..💪❤
Where he goes, he’s deffinitely going to shine & will be regular between the sticks of NT!

All the best………Anyway, Martinez & Musso should be two regular GKs for Argentina in next two world cups & other tournaments..

  2. Was very excited to see palacios back in action. And I am loving the role leverkeusen have slotted him in for as long as it remains the long term plan. Its quite early and probably needs at least a season or more but the profile he was used in along with nico dominguez progress gives me excitement that we might finally have the squad depth to be able to play a true 4231 by next year.

    • Guys how good is this guy called Lautaro gianetti. He is being linked with Sporting, Benefica and an unknown Spanish team. But unfortunately there is no solid offer for lucas martinez quarta until now. Even real betis are looking for luiz abram of velez. It’s bit worrying

  3. Leeds United is in race to sign a goalkeeper as Leeds’s current goalkeeper is too young(20 year old)to play and does not have Premiere league experience. If Emi Martinez stays in Arsenal as starting goalkeeper then Beisla going to sign Sergio Romero of Man United. This is a win -win situation for Argentina national team.If both of these goalkeeper play regularly then i can see both of them in Argentina national team.

      • Did you watch Bayern Munich matches. Neuer is 2nd best player for Bayern after Lewandowski, this season Neuer performed better than Alison. Neuer win best Goalkeeper award again after 2017 if Bayern Munich win UCL. Neuer isn’t number uno just like before but still top5 best GK. Farmer Leno is bench warmer to another bench warmer Finished peter cheez a year ago before his retirement, to show another farmer Emi Martinez worth just hyping Germany 4th choice GK Leno superior. Nubel >>>> farmer Leno

  4. Player ratings
    Leverkusen: Hradecky (6), Lars Bender (7), Tapsoba (7), Sven Bender (7), Sinkgraven (6), Aranguiz (7), Palacios (7), Wirtz (6), Havertz (7), Diaby (8), Volland (6).

For me palacios had good game his passing was impressive always looking forward. he will be some player
    Just need more game time.

    • Yes. At 24th min he gave a superb killer pass to release havertz. Havertz missed with a wide shot . That was like banega pass to Messi against Nigeria in wc2018. Hope that Dumbo coach bosz gives him more time & he can easily get back to his best. Considering he hardly played in last few months it was a good show. But he looked isolated in pitch. Bayern is not his long-term place

    • I’m glad atleast bosz has restored faith in him I was tnking tat there might have been a fallout between palacios n Peter bosz but glad tats not the case I tnk maybe injuries restricted him a lot In the end of the season .he also now seems to have gelled with his teammates well . I tnk once havertz leaves bosz will start analysing palacios’s role and play him more next season he always has a tendency to rotate his squads a lot.

      • Yeah I was CERTAIN that there was a fallout between him and the coach because of the way Palacios was benched seemed personal. Never the less Leverkusen’s coach is too inconsistent and I don’t see Palacios or Leverkusen flourishing under him.

    • Ocampos had a good game but as for palacios it was mixed, his passing and pressing were good, however, he needs to improve his movements.
Aranguiz was always available for the pass whereas palacios wasn’t.
And palacios definitely looked a guy without confidence.
      But his passing is incredible.

      • I would not say Palacios had a good game at all. Was timid. Never truly looked for the ball. Also sad to see his teammates look him off. Truly no confidence right now due to almost zero game time. I’m confident he will be a very productive player in Europe though

  5. Good performance from ocampos against roma always creating something special when on the ball his workrate for the team is always amazing but more than that it was a masterclass performance from ever banega literally oozed class and perfection when on the ball it’s a shame he is leaving Sevilla this season he still has one or two more good seasons in him and could have left as a true Sevilla legend . Hope inter or Sevilla win the Europa league .

    • He was behind the most clear goalscoring chance in first half, as he made havertz alone in front of goal with a long ball behind the defence but Kai missed it badly, I was frustrated because it would have been an assist for palacios. Other than that, I think he was quite good overall and contributes a lot to the link up play in attacking third for Leverkusen.

    • he played a very deep midfield role today. Does he normally play that position? He wasnt impressive today to me, but he also hasnt played any minutes so he is a step behind. He was good defending tho

  6. I have seen many guys commenting here the formations for upcoming matches. First of all as I saw someone with Ocampos-Dybala- Messi front 3. Dude it won’t work. Haven’t you seen Barca struggle with wrong front 3 formation of Suarez-Grizi-Messi; Ansu-Grizi Messi. Grizi and Dybala are similar players. It’s just not effective as we have many options. Also Ocampos is most efective on RW/RM. When Messi plays you have to play either Lautaro/Icardi and not Aguero because Messi and Aguero are similar players too. Aguero aint a target man like Lautaro/Icardi. For Messi Lautaro 4-4-2 works best with midfield of Acuna-Paredes-DePaul-Ocampos.
When Messi doesnt play you can start Aguero at 9 and Dybala at 10 in a 4-2-3-1 with Paredes-Dominguez anchoring and Papu Gomez/Di Maria at left and Lo Celso/DePaul/Ocampos on right.
Otherwise the current formation is perfect a 4-3-1-2 with Messi behind Lautaro and Aguero but only problem is LoCelso shouldnt start besides lazy Paredes. Either Dominguez/Palacios/Ascacibar should start with Paredes and DePaul.
    What do you guys think?

    • Lo celso is best there,Lo celso is going to go forward in 4312 which is his favorite position as there is open space for him let Paredes stay in deep he will nullify counter attack and will take long shot on goal.

    • In last year’s Copa America 2019, the third place game we had a front 3 of Messi, Dybala in the middle and Kun on the left and it worked just fine. Ocampos played quite a few games on the left for Sevilla and although he’s at his best on the right he does do a decent job on the left too.

    • You don’t know whether Ocampos-Dybala-lio trio would work or not unless you try and it hasn’t been tried yet and Ocampos is every bit as good on the left as he is on the right and if you don’t believe me check out his last 2 years in Marsaille, especially the season before last where he scored 16 goals playing mostly on the left side.
I personally don’t like the idea of 3 strikers up top especially since Kun and Lio don’t defend, which puts huge pressure on the midfield, this however can be fixed by playing a physical, fast, defensively disciplined player like Ocampos who can also create/score goals. I mean just look at the last 2 friendlies where Argentina with Ocampos completely nullified Brazil who hardly had a shot on goal, while without Ocampos and 3 strikers up front Argentina looked far more vulnerable and ate 2 goals.
With Ocampos on the right in a 4-3-3 Celso can play behind Messi and I agree with you on Paredes, I would prefer Ascacibar who offers far greater defensive acumen and physicality thus allowing Celso and De Paul to maraud forward and support the forwards.

      • What about 4321 formation??
The “4–3—2—1” Christmas Tree plan gives many players in the middle of the field, helping to establish a high-pressure style in the middle.
This plan lacks width but the movement and rotation of the full backs up and down going high with attacking midfielder coming inside will disrupt the opponent defense
This formation is a defensive tactic, as a structure the emphasis is on solidity and rigidity, the full backs should give width in the defensive and midfield third
The N/T needs to try this plan instead of the 4–4—2
It is suitable to cover up lazy Paredes because it is witnessing 5 players in the middle
Messi will play a free role as Kaka was with Milan 2007 and beside him Ocampos (Seedorf), where he will play an important tactical role here physically strong , good with feet , presses well and a strong defensive contributor with Lautaro or icardi in the forward and support from Montiel, Tagliafico or Acuna would be great
And the advantage of this formation is flexible and dynamic, it can be transformed according to the circumstances of the match to 4-3-3 by Ocampos, messi push out wide
Or to 3—4—2—1 or 4—4—2 diamond or even flat

    • Lo Celso cannot be on the bench. He has been one of the best midfielders in Europe this season. Cant leave a player who can create magic at any given moment on the bench.

    • You probably missed the Uruguay and Brazil games with Aguero – Dybala and Messi in the hole. Easily our best attacking games in recent years.

  7. Guys and experts here, any idea about Dario Sarmiento – 17 year old talent from Estudiantes…Looks like Alejandro Sabella speaks highly of him and definitely a star for the future for Albiceleste.

  8. Please reply to this ?? Give me your opinion guys???

Compilation video of some saves by Emi Martinez this season

He has been with Arsenal for 10 years waiting for a starting spot. That’s some commitment you don’t see from many players. Now he has proven that he’s too good to be a benchwarmer and should be No.1. Arsenal want to extend his contract so it’s good that he’s putting pressure and demanding well-deserved game time!

  10. I don’t understand why clubs are hesitating to buy Montiel and quarta even though their exit clauses are around 20m and also river are willing to negotiate for around 12-15 million . I was expecting Leeds to submit bids but it’s only speculation still. If Montiel n quarta were brazilians we would have seen bidding war of Upto 30 million or more. Hope zaracho, quarta and Montiel seal moves to Europe quickly it’s the ideal age for them .

  11. Anyone saw the Inter Getafe match yesterday? The level of play was unbelievably bad. Over 200 wrong passes in the first 60 minutes. No build up from Inter defence, they just kick the ball forward. Crosses were appalling. Our future striker shared in the misery and was taken off. In this form the only Martinez to be selected is Emiliano and not Lautaro.

    • I would like to see it. But I’m not sure about Ocampos as AMF. He is a winger (either side) and has only ever played 2 games as AMF and 8 games as SS (according to Transfermarkt). Perhaps he could pull it off but I’m thinking Buendia/Gomez could fit there next to Messi too, with De Paul, Paredes and Lo Celso behind them

  13. Emi Martinez deseves 40 matches per season. He has been phenomenal recently. That save against Trent Alexanler Arnold was save of the century.

  14. In my opinion top 5 goalkeepers for next season
    1 Oblak
    2 Allison
    3 Emi Martinez
    4 Ter Stergen
    5. B.Leno

      • No doubt emilano did awesome. But 10games is very early to make such an analysis. Look at how world class degea based on initial seasons is now struggling with bloopers. Atleast a full season to really evaluate whether he is top 5 or 10. But just hope scaloni bets on him & starts playing him as starter immediately & not wait him for him to establish as arsenal No1. Being Argentina GK starter will also help increase emilano’s value in club eco system. In recent past we have lost out on ruilli & caballero who were not given NT starter opportunities at right time when they deserved the chance & hopeful scaloni will not make same mistake

        • De Gea flopped because he never had character of a goalkepper and that is not a case for Emi Martinez.Goalkeepers like Emi Martinez,Oliver Kahn,Manuel Neurer has character in themselves that is they will be always consistent in their prime age.

          • Character & consistency I don’t know how is that connected. Bcos emilano has a strong personality , he will be consistent.. I don’t get that logic!!!!. He is good & did awesome when finally given a chance. I will leave it there. To put him in top 5 after 10 games is too optimistic. I will say gk player of month is Emiliano. Let him get more time & show consistency with such good form. Then he gets into top5 or 10. Scaloni Shld take a chance by playing him as starting gk.

      • Ter Stergen’s positioning is good but not great sometime he lacks concentration or takes pressure that is why he is in No 4.Match vs Liverpool and Argentina friendly some examples

        • Not because of 10 matches but his patience.Emi has been in Arsenal for 10 years as a 2nd or 3rd choice goalkeeper he said that even when he was 3rd choice goalkeeper he continued to work hard that is exceptional now he has chance that is why he is going to be consistent.More than that he has all the qualities of good human being and great goalkeeper
