FIFA 2023 U20 World Cup draw completed, Argentina in Group A

The draw for the FIFA 2023 U20 World Cup has taken place and Argentina in Group A.

Hosts Argentina have been drawn in Group A at the tournament. And they will play in the opening match of the tournament against Uzbekistan on May 20 at the Santiago del Estero.

Winner of the 1995 U20 World Cup with Argentina, Juan Pablo Sorin and World Cup winner David Trezeguet were at the draw. They were the two people pulling the names of the countries from the pots.

Argentina have been drawn in Group A along with Uzbekistan, Guatemala and New Zealand. Group B has the United States of America, Ecuador, Fiji and Slovakia.

Group C is with Senegal, Japan, Israel and Colombia while Group D has Italy, Brazil, Nigeria and Dominican Republic. Group E is with Uruguay, Iraq, England and Tunisia. Group F has France, Korea Republic, The Gambia and Honduras. Here are the full groups:

Argentina plays Uzbekistan on May 20, Guatemala on May 23 and New Zealand on May 26.

  2. Easy group. That Italy Brazil group should be fun. Also group F should be interesting. Gambia are on their way up in my opinion, they just need less corruption in their funding.

Carlos Alcaraz is more and more playing in attack for Southampton, sometimes even as a centre forward, interesting transformation from a box-to-box midfielder to a forward or at least a second striker. His finishing must be pretty decent but someone mentioned that his first touch and dribbling skills are mediocre for a midfielder.

  4. Mascherano did not get the results but if you watched Argentina games, they were the best team but far on the pitch EVERY GAME but the Brazil game. Goalkeeper let him down against Colombia and finishing was horrible!! Our midfield was great… now add buonanotte to the midfield and 3 players that can finish in soule, romero and garnacho…. Mascherano is no sampeoli … the team is United … the style is understood … you will see come May 20th…

  5. Congratulations to AFA for winning the hosting rights and then shooting itself on the foot by reappointing a clueless coach. His first wise action was to exclude Prestianni.

  6. This is the easist possible group.. However, with a fraud head coach like Sampaoli 2.0, anything can happen. I don’t have any high hopes on this U20 team.

    • Yeah but probably toughest Ro 16 match.. will probably play Nigeria/italy whoever finish 3rd in that group. Best third place team from …. C/D/E

      • Lucky draw. We should finish first and then face third from C/D/E. Looks to me C is the group of death, so we will probable have Japan or Colombia in round of 16. Either way, we will be eliminated by then as we have a clueless coach, the worst possible.
