Lionel Messi wins his 8th FIFA The Best Player of the Year award

Lionel Messi won his 8th FIFA The Best Player of the Year award on Monday.

Despite not being the odds on favorite against Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland before the event, the Argentine legend won the Best Player of 2023 award. Messi tied with the Norwegian in 48 votes, but the World Cup winner surpassed him in the captains’ votes (107 to 64). Therefore, he won the award.

Leo was not present at the ceremony in London, same as his competitors, because he was in the middle of Inter Miami’s preseason.

Last year, Messi helped Paris Saint-Germain obtain the Ligue 1 title and was crucial in leading Inter Miami to win the Leagues Cup.
