Manchester City have been following Alan Varela’s performances with FC Porto.
Alan Varela has caught the eye of the Premier League champions. According to Bruno Andrade, Manchester City have closely followed the 22 year old’s performances and have been present in some recent matches.
No negotiations are under way but Varela is being evaluated. The midfielder joined FC Porto from Boca Juniors for €8 million with a €70 million release clause.
Glad to see another Argentine being target of top clubs. Meanwhile Enzo Fernandez should be careful. Competition for midfield spots will be very tight. Previously Argentina was known for having too many forwards. But now the midfield area is now defining strength of the Argentina squad.
Competition is good, keeps them motivated. For now, I think Mascherano is going to try to have Varela at the Olympics.
Competition in midfield gives me joy. Unfortunately should Messi and Dimaria retire, the forward line will be exposed as blunt. Good news is there is 2 more years for the young players like echeverri, Garnacho, Soule, Alejo Veliz to develop their skill sets.
Pool and City will battle for him in the summer. Pool is more ideal, in City theres Rodri, but Pool need a classic defensive midfielder.
I agree, he should go to Liverpool because of opportunity for more playing time
He is more of Liverpool type of player to me, and would have much less competition there.

Plus he is way younger than Endo who is the only real DM Liverpool has right now. So Varela can be a long-term solution for Liverpool in that department.
