Argentina U23 team named for friendly matches in Mexico

Argentina U23 national team coach Javier Mascherano has named his players for their
friendly matches in Mexico. They will play on Friday, March 22nd, in Mazatlán, and on
Monday, March 25th, in Puebla, both against the Mexico U23 team.

Here are the 21 players called up by Mascherano:
Leandro Brey (Boca Juniors)
Fabricio Iacovich (Estudiantes LP)
Joaquín García (Vélez)
Gonzalo Luján (San Lorenzo)
Ian Glavinovich (Newell’s)
Aaron Quirós (Banfield)
Marco Pellegrino (Salernitana)
Román Vega (Argentinos Juniors)
Federico Redondo (Inter Miami)
Juan Sforza (Vasco Da Gama)
Alan Varela (Porto)
Juan Nardoni (Racing Club)
Cristian Medina (Boca Juniors)
Thiago Almada (Atlanta United)
Claudio Echeverri (River Plate)
Matías Soulé (Frosinone)
Nicolás Paz (Real Madrid)
Luciano Gondou (Argentinos Juniors)
Santiago Castro (Bologna)
Pablo Solari (River Plate)
Lucas Beltrán (Fiorentina)

  1. Redondo looked good in the game against DC. His grit paid for the first goal and he was involved in the build up for both the others. He needs to improve his speed. However, it seems he has some physical build up issue. His running does not look like a smooth sprint. But we can be hopeful about him. He is learning from the bests in the world Messi, Busquets, Alba and Suarez, who have past their prime but can be great teachers, nonetheless.

  2. Varela, Almada, Paz midfield, Echeverri, Soule and Beltran in attack. We’ve seen Brey in goal, he’s decent. Probably Pellegrino as LCB (he’s a regular at Salernitana now on loan from AC Milan), maybe Vega as a LB? Not sure about RB and RCB.

  3. Midfield and attacks looks good. Only concern is defense and gk.. hope he gets senior players for Olympic in defense..
