Hernán Crespo’s Al Ain make AFC Champions League final

Hernán Crespo’s Al Ain have qualified for the AFC Champions League final.

Crespo continues to impress in his coaching career. Despite losing the second leg 2-1 agaonst Al-Hilal, it was a 5-4 aggregate win for the team in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The 48 year old eliminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr on penalty kicks in the quarter finals before eliminating Al-Ain to reach the final. They will play Yokohama FM or Ulsan in the final of the Champions League.

As a coach, the Argentine won the 2020 Copa Sudamericana, the 2021 Campeonato Paulista with Sao Paulo and in Qatar won the 2022-2023 Qatar Stars League, the 2022-2023 Qatari Stars Cup and the 2023 Qatar Cup with Al-Duhail.

      • I think it’s depends entirely on his own ambition. Some Argentine coaches like Hector Cuper have been content working mostly outside of Europe. Crespo surely will make more money in the Middle East, but if he wants to make a name for himself as a coach he should consider Serie A for example where he is well known as a player.

        • I was really looking forward to Gallardo taking up a challenge in Europe but I guess money is also an important factor and he must have been offered higher salary but hopefully he will move to Europe when his contract runs out in Saudi.
