It will be between Ezequiel “Equi” Fernández and Guido Rodríguez for a spot at the Copa America.
Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni could be picking between the two players. According to Gastón Edul, Scaloni is deciding between Ezequiel “Equi” Fernández and Guido Rodríguez for a spot in the team.
Ezequiel “Equi” Fernández could also be called up for the U23 team. Per the same report, Argentina U23 coach Javier Mascherano finds him fundamental for his team at the Olympics and Equi will only be going to one of the two tournaments.
There have been rumors of Guido Rodríguez missing out on the Copa America. He was part of the 2021 Copa America team which won it.
Due to Dybala’s abysmal fitness record, Roma are seriously considering not renewing Dybala’s contract which expires next year June. He has been an important player for them however due to his criminally bad fitness issues they can’t rely on them. Roma needs to reduce their wage bills due to FFP and are actually thinking of offloading Dybala who is amongst one of the highest earner in that club. He can’t stay fit for more than three games in a row and missed their most important match of the season against Leverkusen where Roma crashed out from Europa cup, shattering any hopes of Champions league futbal next season. They are in a worse place than Mourinho was before he was sacked .
Dybala is a liability whether fit or not. He does not press, work rate is low and quickly dispossessed. Dybala playing puts the Mid and defensive third under pressure. Papu Gomez and Messi at 38 are more physically assertive.
Dybala’s debate is a topic not many are willing talk about. Furthermore I don’t see any need of including him for the Copa America team.
I prefer Exequiel Fernandez. His work rate and explosiveness in that midfield will be vital
Guido should be called. If we are keeping ota and pezz then why not Guido?
Pezella selection really annoys me. But talking of midfielders Equi Fernandez and Varela can offer much more c/f to Guido Rodriguez.
Santiago Hezze (22 years, 1.82m), would be ideal player to replace guido as compared to Fernández, he is young inexperience on international arena, so i my opinion santiago would be better replacement or backup CDM for upcoming copa america.
If Olympics was not a factor, I would say Alan Varela would be the best defensive pivot right now…
Guido would be my vote for. Bringing in a new player is perhaps not the best idea. One would take at least a couple of matches to fit into the scheme of Scaloni.
Likes of Enzo Fernandez was a new player and clicked instantly. And mark you that was the world cup. Varela has had a decent season at Porto. Equi Fernandez can play with both feet, his explosiveness in the field can help the midfield. Furthermore we don’t know if Enzo Fernandez will have recovered on time for the tournament.
Guido all the way. He has the experience and having that extra defense as an option could be important.
