Lionel Messi brought on Ángel Di María and Nicolás Otamendi to lift the Copa America trophy.

Messi asked Ángel Di María and Nicolás Otamendi to join him when he was being handed the Copa America trophy to lift. The three lifted the trophy and celebrated.

  3. Congrats to our boys and to you all. As albiceleste supporters it’s feast or famine, 28 freaking years of goose egg and then a world cup sandwiched by 2 copas! honestly life is hella funny.

    Few notes and observations:

    Dibu is now my 3rd favorite Argentine player of all time (guess who the first 2 are!) and I think he’s MVP.
    Really happy for Lautaro, who had an awful WC and made up for it with a banger of a Copa!

    Enzo, DePaul and Maccers had a mixed tournament but when they faltered Paredes and Celso stepped up just like when Enzo and Maccers stepped up when Paredes was a no show and Celso was injured. It just goes to show that this team is complete, not perfect but complete, when one fails there is another willing and ready to pick up the slack.

    Lastly I’m gonna say something that some of you won’t like but I really think it’s time for Lio to call it quits. I say this because I noticed that when Lio came off in the 2nd half Argentina took over the match. They were faster, more determined and just….plain better. It was like day and night. I love you with all my heart Lio and now I have to say “thank you for your service” .

      • Aka flying birds, Mamoun elpipita is on this site from a very longtime and I remember he is a Iraqi living in NZ. If you have read his posts before, you will NOT deem him to be negative. I believe you are the same poster who supported Brazil and trolled us during 2021 copa.
        BTW, elpipita: do you remember pablod? How is he? Just curious as I haven’t heard from him on this website from long time.

    • I agree. Leo needs to transition into the role dimaria had this tournament. Loved. Usefull. But not a guaranteed starter. He will now be most useful as a wonder sub on 70th min. Messis one flaw is his stubborness to sub off, playing hurt doesnt help us anymore. We are having to sacrifice players to make up for messis lack of running like we did with Riquelme.. and it works when we have the best player in the world.. but messi is no longer there, he is amazing, but now he isnt the team, he is a gear in it. Its not negativity, its just the sad truth of father time.

    • Yes, @mamoun elpipita as obviously many may might not like, but u are very right as it was kind of blessing in disguise, though ARG Could had won it also with LEO staying fit on field as i quess, that would be fair arguemunt true in the end, but as he did got injured and were forced to leave the pitch, well i think same as u said in your last word’s of your post :

      Though i’m sure MESSI will continue for some time at least, but the team for WC 26 has to build in such way, that does not depend on him anymore as being the BEST EVER, well even how much i would love to see him continue, still it might be the right time for him, but we shall see…

      ARG did not however played so bad also before that, but it deffenetly changed things for ARG’s way as u said and i think also those subs as obviously they were very needed as playing in that heat and even don’t know how high was the humudity too, still in, that point of the game on extra time every team needs fresh legs and as some mentioned here on mundo before ARG’s bench may be the ultimate game changer with the experiement winning allready 3 MAJOR TROPHYS before in a row and yes, when u can send subs as Nico, Paredes, Lo Celso and TORO and even Colombia also obviously brought their fresh legs as needed, still their quality of freshblegs compared to ARG’s were obviously not the same and basicly everyone in ARG’s team had, that winning experience mentality allready gained before by winning back to back Trophys to ARG and, that put the game in bed for ARG and luckily no penalties were needed, though i was sure DIBU will win them if the game would had gone penalties !

      Well, i Could not agree more and i’m so happy for my kids to be boen in this era as now this was their 4TH FINAL ON THE ROW AS OBVIOUSLY ARG MADE THEM ONCE MORE SO HAPPY AGAIN ! INCREDIBLE INDEED ! DALE CAMPEON !

    It is hard to believe that Argentina awaited for such a cool man nearly for a decade. Scaloni esque was the only missing element during the throphyless decades considering the abundance of talents and world class players Argentina produced in the last three decades.

  9. Colombia was planning to score first as early as possible and defend..but from Second half, they lost it mentally…We showed Champion’s grit..
    This team can win even without Messi and Di Maria. From now onwards Garnacho, Carboni and Barco should be given more minutes ..

    11 players of this team are at the age of 26 or less. Perfect for 2026..👍

    • If wasnt Dibu, they’ll probably tries the same tactic as Chile in 2015 & 2016 finals. I guess they’re afraid of the prospect of facing Emi in shootout so they didnt bunker.

  16. Now Argentina needs new starters at RB and LB. Montiel is not NT material. Tagliafico is a very good player, but he is getting old. I hope Pezzella, Armani, Acuna, Montiel, Guido, and Otamendi all retire from NT after this match. But Messi should continue until the next World Cup. He is still the best player in the world when healthy.

      He has changed the game too if julian alvarez had gamble he would have score when di maria found nico in the far post and he headed back cross the goal to alvarez. Licha, cut , tagliafico had a great game after people hyped Colombia physicality and good set pieces.

  21. Lautaro, Locelso , Paredes and Nico they changed the game in the second half. Having a apex striker come off the bench was a huge advantage who brought his seria a form to copa!

    It’s better Otamendi also retires after this Copa.

  26. Its kinda poetic how Copa 2021 trio Paredes > Lo Celso > Martinez score the winning goal in Copa 2024, substituting Word Cup 2022 winners Enzo, MacA, and Alvarez. Truly unpredictable.
