The Argentina national team will pay homage to Ángel Di María in their World Cup qualifying match vs. Chile in September.

Argentina will not be calling up Ángel Di María for their next matches in September as the 36 year old has retired. According Fernando Czyz, the reigning World Cup, Finalissima and back to back Copa America champions will be paying tribute to Di María during that game.

Ángel Di María’s wife Jorgelina spoke about the idea of him potentially playing 11 minutes for Argentina against Chile. Speaking in an interview with Radio La Red, here is what she had to say:

“It’s a great idea. He and the people who were unable to make it to the Copa America deserve it. I like it and so does he.”

Di María played his last match with Argentina in their 1-0 win vs. Colombia in the Copa America final on Sunday.

  1. Fideo … come back. You would be needed in 26 in the bench, at least. You still have it in you. 116 mins full throttle in a Final … are you kidding?

  2. Unlike Kun who I love dearly and Higuian that….well you know but no real hate toward him either but major disappointment, Di Maria corrected the mistakes and shortcomings of the past in a spectacular fashion.
