According to reports from TyC Sports, the worst news was confirmed on Monday after medical tests: Lisandro Martínez has torn his ACL and will miss the rest of the season.
The images from England had already raised concerns, but it wasn’t until today that Manchester United officially confirmed the diagnosis. The 27-year-old defender will require surgery and is expected to be sidelined for approximately six to eight months.
Lisandro Martínez leaves in tears after injury in Manchester United’s defeat.
2 ACL injuries in back to back seasons is not a good news for Licha. Some players return sooner than anticipated but Manchester United will be looking for someone permanent in that position now. Scaloni also with both starting CBs injured, hopefully doesn’t go with Otamendi & Pezzella as starting CBs again. It is time to test & inject new blood in defense where all four positions in the back needs new players.
agreed
Really sad for Licha, love the guy but it’s not all doom and gloom, players like Van-dijk had an ACL and managed to come back.
As for Argentina’s defense, well luckily there are plenty of excellent defenders waiting for a legit shot, Nehuen Perez and Medina would make an excellent CB pair just like they did in the u20s. Balerdi, while reckless at times, is a solid CB and Foyth is now back and is playing well, although he’s made of glass and it’s hard to rely on him; and finally Marcos Senesi who should be back by March (although will be short on fitness).
Judging by what we’ve seen previously Scaloni will most likely go for a Cuti (assuming he’s back by then) and Otamendi as the CB pairing against Brazil and Uruguay with Balerdi as the main backup.
Feeling quite shattered by this news. Besides feeling sorry for him, I am feeling worried about our defence in the upcoming big games. Both the pillars of our defence are out with injury. But we have to move on because that’s what life is in a body contact game. Scaloni has a mountain to climb now in March. I pray Licha comes back stronger and fitter.
will he even be the same?
It depends, but either way, maybe most of our players are not built for EPL. Serie A is still a good league for defenders to develop and flourish. And for our technical players with flair I think La Liga is a good fit. England is brutal.
