Ángel Di María reveals he turned down offers from Saudi Arabia

Ángel Di María has revealed that he turned down offers from Saudi Arabia.

Di María stated that he refused offers to join a club in Saudi Arabia, preferring to stay in Europe. In an interview with Pollo Alvarez, the Argentine had called Lionel Messi the greatest player of all time over Cristiano Ronaldo.

Revealing in the same interview, the 37 year old stated that after the 2022 World Cup, while he was still at Juventus, he received offers to play in Saudi Arabia. Here is what he had to say:

“The truth is, I received an offer from Saudi Arabia and I said no. Then another offer came, more than double, from the same club. I said no again. That’s when my friend told me, “We need to say something because I’m not sure if they know that you don’t want to go play there.” So I said, “Well, if they give us this (a much higher amount), maybe we’ll go.” And they actually offered that!

“My wife was telling me, “How are they going to give you that, you idiot?” Well, the idiot was right. I threw a crazy number, expecting them to say no, but instead, they said, “Yes, yes, done?” When my friend told me they accepted, I told my wife, “See? I’m not an idiot. We asked, and they met it.” Then we were like, “Now what?” But in the end, we decided to go to Lisbon, to Benfica. I ended up turning it down.

“All of this happened after the World Cup, when I was at Juve, during that time. I think it was a combination of everything. But now, that’s it. If that offer came again, I think I’d pass. I don’t really feel like going to a place like that at the end of my career.”

  1. You know a friend of mine pointed out something shocking the other day, no u20 champion has been able to even make it to the following tournament to defend their title let alone actually defend their title ever since Argentina’s win in 2007!
in 2007 Argentina won it and then failed to make the 09 edition to defend their title. Ghana then won 09 but didn’t make the 2011 version to defend their title, then Brazil won ’11 but weren’t there in ’13 to defend it and the same for France (’13 won but failed to even make ’15 tournament), Serbia (won ’15 but a no show for ’17), England (’17 winner but nowhere to be found at ’19), Ukraine (yay ’19 but nay in ’22) and now Uruguay who won the last eddition in ’22 (or was it ’23?) and now is gonna miss out.
Honestly I don’t believe in curses and all that superstitious stuff but looking at the U20 WC, I have stay say that I might be turned around on the subject.

  2. We were the better team. But the Echiverri injury & subbing changed momentum. It turned out like the DiMaria sub in WC final. Our left flank constantly troubled Brazil. Subraire’s runs into final third was very good. Overall very promising team for the U20 World Cup

  3. Now you all know why we hate those yellow shit. How wasn’t that red card Igor foul. That cunt showing 5 star like they had last 1759 lol. I don’t give shit they u20 they acted like their adult one too. Spoil brats .
