Thiago Almada would score a stunning goal for Argentina in their 1-0 win vs. Uruguay in the World Cup qualifiers.
The first half saw Uruguay having much of the ball but unable to capitalize on any chances. Argentina created one chance with Giuliano Simeone crossing into the penalty area with Alexis Mac Allister making the run which was stopped by the goalkeeper.
Lionel Scaloni’s team would start the second half and would create chances. A through ball by Julian Alvarez found Thiago Almada but the goalkeeper would come out and close the angle on Almada’s effort on goal.
At 0-0, Julián Álvarez would play a pass to Almada and the Argentine’s effort on goal from outside of the penalty area would go into the top corner to give Argentina the 1-0 lead.
Scaloni would bring on Nicolás González on for Giuliano Simeone, Exequiel Palacios for Alexis Mac Allister, Leonardo Balerdi for Leandro Paredes and Ángel Correa on for Thiago Almada.
Nicolás González would get a red card towards the end of the match. He would go for the ball but miss it and accidentaly kick Nandez in the face.
Argentina would get the 1-0 win and will play Brazil on Tuesday.

Will cherish this away win. After a dull 1st half, we bounced back real well & importantly didnt panic in last 10minutes. Almada has arrived in NT stage & i am no more worried on Dybala fitness. Great all-round display in 2nd half & special callouts for Tagli, Parades, Alvarez, Ota & even Simeone jr. Good Romero got minutes & will be sharper for Brazil battle. The only blot was NicoG’s blunder which was totally not needed with a minute left. Hoping to also see how Scaloni gets Alvarez more upfront vs Brazil .The Brazilian left wing vs Molina+Simeone will decide the classico outcome.
Gloryyyy muchachos.
I cooked beef early for this glorious Ramadan victory… And it Was worth it.
We started off shaky and confused but our defense held up till we started playing well in the end of the first half.
Poor Macca was already tired before the break but the midfield was working for us. I love macalister, what a talent he has become even when tired. Everyone on defense had an excellent performance including otamendi with his old legs. Bless Tagla fico fo his hustle tonight and he even kept his shirt tucked in.
I was also impressed with Simeone… He ran for all the minutes he was given. Almada is so underrated as I would NEVER have started him if I was the coach 😂. What a game he had.
We need to keep up with the quick passes and possession build up. This frustrated Uruguay’s midfield and offense to the point of exhaustion.
Nico G came in late in the game with a hustle and run but had bad luck with the red card.
I’m happy with our play boys. This was a tactical match that we were able to get three points from against a world class team. Vamos
Ramadan Kareem my brother. Also to everyone in Mundo who are practising.
IMO This team has right balance of youth and experience…messi and otamendi are much needed..if not it would be like the french team that lost against Croatia…btw modric is older than Messi and he played the full 90 mins and his team won against France. (budimir is 33, perisic is 36 MOM vs France and modric is 39)
I was keep asking almada to start, you see how good he is above the goal he played a great game , moving around the pitch find space and link up with his teammates well
I thought cuti Romero And tagliafico had a super game. Scaloni is amazing his record without messi something new to mention too
Spot on indeed!
I dont think this pressing and workrate with a 39 years old Messi is possible in the WC, he is a supersub and mentor from now for me. Look at that egoistic cancer in Portugal, dont be like that! Winning the WC with a just walking Messi is unimagineable. Almada was surprisingly good in defending or at least tried a lot doing what Scaloni asked from him.
Yet Messi is still the top scorer in this qualifier…
But these high octaine matches need running, pressing, hustle and younger legs. A 39 years old attacker could never perform in the WC history, even 35 years old Messi performance was a miracle for his age.
Scaloni wins everything because his team has the proper balance between workhorse like Julian, Nico, Acuna, RDP, ADM with technical but slower players like Messi, Enzo, Mac, Lautaro.
If everyone is a workhorse than we’d be like some random African sides. There’s a reason why they never achieve anything notable at the WC, its 80% physicality, 20% footballing brain.
We continuously beat Nigeria at WC and they;re always stronger than us physically. England is another example, bunch of fast runners but 0 silverware in 60 years.
Agreed. Football changing and it ain’t only elegance anymore. More like hard work ,nonstop press. Just feel like Messi will be out of his comfort zone in there. However wouldn’t mind he come from bench or something kill the game or even change the game with tired Opposition.
His sub stats are out of the universe, 57 goals in 3200 minutes.
Messi as a super sub? I don’t mind…
it will be great if Scaloni is convinced & Messi agrees to this atleast for the last 3 qualifiers A fresh Messi against tired opposition will be so lethal. Bring him in by 60th minute or so. This also gives the younger players more minutes in qualifiers
So by your logic…otamendi, taglifico, parades are good to go and messi not so much, right??? IMO This team has right balance of youth and experience…messi and otamendi are much needed..if not it would be like the french team that lost against Croatia…btw modric is older than Messi and he played the full 90 mins and his team won against France. (budimir is 33, perisic is 36 MOM vs France and modric is 39)
I dont completely disagree with you but differ a bit. Physicality is not the only go. You should have a balance. Fast and physical player playing with the brain of Messi. I think Scaloni should mix it up by playing Messi in starting XI and as super sub in different games depending on the oppostition. I would not mind seeing Messi coming off the Bench if it requires the situation. He would be deadly.
We’re pretty much qualified. That red card was simply a bad luck. Clearly unintentional but definetely dangerous, could have put the guy unconcious if it connected.
Julian was great, he literally run the whole game. At one point he couldnt find passing option so he just hit the ball on Uruguay’s player and won throw in lol
Congratulations everyone. Unlucky for Nico now we are one workhorse less against Yellow team. It was masterful well planned game tactically. You just can’t go to Uruguay and start the all gun blazing! Ofcourse they would attack relentlessly plus it is Loco team who always run and run. I never felt we were out of control and I love Messi but I feel like we should have start the process already life without Messi. Messi should be one more player in tactics wise and build a team around new guys so they can gel together. We need to find one more right back and Left back few back up centre backs that’s all. I believe Scaloni working towards it.
Yes very true indeed as this was just exactly what ARG needed for the future, which maybe kind of happened as ” blessing in disguise” in terms of injuries/ fatigue…, which gave the opportunity for the coaching and those players who started today and played so well in difficult circumstances as away game against Uruguay and in the oldest Classico! Just need to find those xtra fullbacks for both sides and also create an healthy competition too and bring 1 or 2 CB’s more for to cover up. VAMOS ALBICELESTE !
Almada is from Fuerte Apache, pure garra and skill. That was a golazo!
Small guy with big cannon 😂
Yes and VAMOS ALBICELESTE ! Allways knew and trusted Almada, though i do understand also maybe why he has been doubted in the past as it took somehow such a long time for him to get out of MLS where he allready was so good and then a stunning spell with Botafogo and now finaly in Europe with Lyon, which has been truly fantastic to be able to watch him play and every time he has got the chance and whether he has been coming in as substitute or recently also as starter and last sunday also scored his first goal for Lyon in a game where he started and played so greatly and finished it of with great goal,
but, but now this goal against Uruguay was an absolute beauty indeed!
I was hoping for him to start and it kind of maybe happened through via ” blessing in disguise ” as mentioned also here in Mundo and he truly delivered also not only in terms of that marvelous winning goal he scored, but also he had a fantastic game as did the whole team of ALBICELESTE too!
Kudos once again to Scaloni & CO. Great tactical aproach against Bielsa’s Uruguay and so well also executed by every player. Fantastic team work and effort in the oldest CLASSICO of Football !
So happy and super proud for our beloved ALBICELESTE !
I was one of many who questioned the inclusion of Almada in the 2022 WC squad……🤦🫣🤫🫵🤌
He matured a lot since tho . Plus his move to America wasn’t helping at all in his case 😂
But he had big potential that I for one had no idea, let me correct that, I never heard of him and I live in Atlanta lol…but watched him play afterwards and I saw that rocket launcher on display
