Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni spoke about Matías Soulé.
Lionel Scaloni has not called-up Matías Soulé to the Argentina national team for the two friendly matches against Venezuela and Puerto Rico. Scaloni held a press conference on Monday where he commented on if Lionel Messi will play against Puerto Rico on Tuesday. Scaloni also spoke about Matías Soulé. Here is what he had to say:
“Soulé is on our radar, like so many other young players who we believe can contribute to the team. He has been with us, as have Buonanotte, Garnacho, and Carboni. These are young players who we see having a future with the national team and we will call them up as and when we see that they have the potential. That’s the idea.”

This big difference between Soule and the likes of Garnacho, Bounanotte and Carboni is that the former has been performing at a high level for his team since the 2nd half of last season. Garnacho is improving for Chelsea but he’s still inconsistent, the same goes for Buonanotte while Carboni can’t even book a starting place in a lowly Serie A team, hence the comparison isn’t exactly spot on. Still, Scaloni getting asked about Soule means that the kid is on his radar and if he keeps performing for Roma we may see him sooner than later.
I didn’t know that Bounetto, Garnacho and Carboni are also killing it for their respective clubs as much as Soule😀😀 . I thought club form is one of Scaloni’s metric for inclusion and Soule has been in red-hot form ever since Juve released him- nearly 03 years now. For me it is a dejavu of Cuti Romero and unless situations forced Scaloni like he did it with Cuti, and Martinez cases it is very unlikely
to see such talents.
I also remember Di Maria has to make public statement why he was constantly overlooked by Scaloni & co but as they would say the rest was history- i would day it is even scary to think off both WC and 21 Copa (broke the jinx) finals with out Di Maria.
* I would say
Playing for the club vs national team is completely different specifically under Scaloni’s system. Paz has been killing it in SerieA but he has been quite underwhelming so far while Almada has been outstanding even though his club form has been quite inconsistent. Scaloni’s system doesn’t rely on individual talent but team cohesion and chemistry! We don’t have flashy players like France, Spain, Brazil, Portugal or England but we outplay them because of the system put together by Scaloni! Forward and midfield department is stacked right now. The only openings are in FB and CB position. Having said that Junior Simeone can’t get a free pass. He puts in double shift which is no1 requirement under Scaloni but he is a $hit finisher! Worse than Garnacho!
What a load of bull. Majority of goals are still scored or created by Messi with individual talent. Messi, Di Maria, Mac Allister, Nico Gonzalez, Lo Celso, even Alvarez all are flashy players. 90% of the team plays of major clubs and are considered world class players. Individual ability, especially trickery, flair and aggressive defending – “La Nuestra” – are major ingredients of success of this team.
