Updates on Argentina national team fitness issues

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has several players that have fitness issues.

Lionel Scaloni will not have everyone available for Argentina’s two friendly matches against Honduras and Iceland before the World Cup. According to Gastón Edul, Lionel Messi, who has a minor issue, will not play for Argentina against Honduras and Iceland but will be ready for Argentina’s first match at the World Cup against Algeria.

Emiliano Martínez has a very small fracture and he will not play against Honduras or Iceland. Leandro Paredes does not have a tear and is set to be available against Algeria in Argentina’s first match at the World Cup.

Nahuel Molina is recovering from a tear and Nicolás González is also practically recovered from a tear. The injury to Nico Paz did not get worse and is expected to play in the first match.

Cristian Romero might be available for Argentina against Iceland.

  1. Finally, posting my first message here after enjoying the discussions for almost a decade. This is a fantastic forum and so many thanks to all of you and especially @Roy Nemer …. I am finally in and got my access to write/contribute. Earlier was just waiting and kept trying for access to write. So without wasting any time…

    Quick thoughts —-
    1. I did this mistake long back – never underestimate Peredes in National jersey, he is a proven beast.
    2. While I am not sure GLC deserves a call or not …. but is everyone here sure Buendia brings in the right atmosphere in dressing room?? I won’t say more – the core group will know that he might not be the best choice in dressing room.
    3. I am a fan of Senesi – but I will trust Scaloni & Co. … and Senesi has been given some chances in the past – which he didn’t capitalise on. So … its okay!
    4. As for Giay or anyone else …. at the end it will all fall in place … we have a window to change any ailing players before the first match — so trust in conspiring Universe. And trust the coaching staff that has lost JUST 8 matches out of 96 in last 8 years and given us every POSSIBLE TROPHY.

Will write more in the future – Gracias!

  2. Things do not look good at all for us. Other teams are fairly injury free. We are going into the battle without some players having given enough time to recuperate. Most unfortunate. I think we can have solid replacements for some of these injured ones like Nicolás González and Montiel. But Scaloni is too emotionally attached to both. Montiel, as a cool penalty taker, contributed hugely to our 2022 triumph. But we have to remember how he gave away the penalty in the final too.
