Thiago Almada is close to joining River Plate from Atletico Madrid.
Almada could be leaving Atletico Madrid and joining River Plate. According to Matteo Moretto, there is a verbal agreement between the two clubs for the Argentine. It would be a transfer of around $20 million.
The 25 year old joined Atletico Madrid last year from Botafogo.

Actually, he doesn’t even deserve to be in River Plate. I’m surprised they accepted him, a player with no strength, no tackle, no good passing, poor finishing, and inability to shoot on goal. He’s fraud.
A cautionary tale for any Argentine player that thinks going and playing for Simeone is a good idea. The man will completely destroy any player he gets his hands on. Look at the track record. It’s not a coincidence.
This is very disappointing to say the least. He was showing a lot of promise at Velez, played really well at Botafogo and Lyon, had several outstanding games for the national team in 2025, but since joining Atletico things went really down hill for him.
Sadly, at this point we can probably move on. We need to find another right footed player cutting in from the left wing.
Almada is too young and too talented to give up on him already. I see him still on any long list. Expect quick mental confidece recovery in River. However it’s time for Prestianni now to take the left flank.

Why no one is interesting in signing Giay? or Lopez even. I thought they deserve to play in mid table teams. At least Giay deserves to play in Serie A or La liga but no one is interested in him.
He’s small I suppose. Look at how the meta at the big teams is now. Big tall centre back build players who can attack down the wing. OR they have a particular X-factor with their crossing like Trent, James or Nuno Mendes. Del Blanco got signed for Strasbourg and also has a bit of a decent cross on him. Giay is more defensive so most clubs aren’t really looking at Giay. Molina’s considered average height in terms of full backs in the grand scheme of things too.
Next Pavon or maybe Meza. He should have stayed Lyon ruined his career literally. Reminds me of Pavon.
Pavon didn’t even get a move to Europe to be fair to Almada.
