Nicolás Tagliafico spoke about the 2026 World Cup and his future with the Argentina national team.
Tagliafico was part of the Argentina national team that won the 2022 World Cup and reached the final of the last World Cup. Speaking on his Twitch channel, the 33 year old had this to say:
“We already have the gold model. Now, we have the silver one. You have to be proud. You have to be proud of the World Cup we did. It’s not easy to get to two consecutive finals, two medals are not easy. And you have to give importance. You also have to know how to lose. And this shows that you achieved it, you made it to the end, you gave it everything and unfortunately, things, sometimes, football can be won, it can be lost.
“But one more for the note book. And it’s worth, it’s worth a lot. For everything that was worked. And don’t think this was worked all in only one month. It’s not that, well, you only focus on the World Cup, that is a month and a little more, this one was a little longer. This was worked for three and a half years.
“After the last World Cup, one starts to focus on “Well, now, in sport, how do I want to arrive? Physically, how do I want to arrive?” And that is not only in one month or in May, one month before the World Cup. This started from before. And one starts to focus on the league, physically, if it serves me or doesn’t serve me.”
He has played 83 matches with the Argentina national team and spoke about his future:
“This World Cup is worth a lot more. Maybe because it could be my last. I think yes. This was my last. I can’t manage another one.
“I would like to reach 100 matches with the Argentina national team but I don’t think I’ll get there.
“I’m doing the course to become coach but it’s becoming more difficult. The players have changed, now, the young players are more stars.”
