Negotiations ongoing between AFA and Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni, Walter Samuel to leave

Negotiations are ongoing between the AFA and Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni over his renewal, Walter Samuel is set to leave.

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni could be leaving as coach in December when his contract ends. According to Gastón Edul, the negotiations between the AFA and Lionel Scaloni are on going but there is still no definitive answer from Scaloni.

There are still weeks remaining for Scaloni to make a decision which has to do with his energy and desire to rebuild a project, a team and start a new cycle. Walter Samuel, who is part of the Argentina national team coaching staff, is set to leave the team.

  1. I personally hope he stays too! This is his time to build without Messi (sad to say).

I can imagine him like the qualifications trying new things building a team again. Introducing new talent.

He has the special friendship with the team which has been the extra point.

    I hope he stays!!!

  2. It’s been a long time since we had a new beginning. If there was ever a time to start rebuilding, this is it. There is no other choice this time.

Most of the players who represented us in the last two World Cups have to go—no ifs or buts about it. For future World Cups, we need younger players who can bring more energy and stamina, players who can withstand the demands of long tournaments and intense matches. We have to keep that in mind.

There are going to be a lot of frustrating results along the way. I just hope we don’t slip too far down the rankings. As fans do we have the patience to see this rebuild through? it is gonna be a very interesting time for us.

  3. good to see enzo having a fantastic time at mancity after 99% of the idiots here were hating on him, people who have never watched football prior to this world cup too. this will be an interesting copa america and qualifiers session coming up.

    • Hahaha 🤣 I love it. You honestly read my mind, having read some truly garbage comments these past few days and couple of weeks. There are so many idiots on here. I wish there was a way to filter them out 🙏🏼

    • If you’re going to insult 99% of the members of the forum, at least get your facts straight. Argentina has already qualified automatically for the 2030 World Cup as one of the countries hosting a centenary match.

As for Enzo, his red card was a major factor in Argentina losing the final. Argentina had to play the final 30+ minutes with 10 men, including extra time, and Spain eventually scored the winner in the 106th minute.

So yes, people are going to criticize him. His goal against England doesn’t erase what happened in the final. A goal in a semifinal is great, but getting sent off in the World Cup final and leaving your team to play extra time with 10 men is a far bigger moment.

Just like Higuaín became a target for his miss in WC 2014 final, Enzo deserves criticism for his role in the WC 2026 final. Scoring against England doesn’t give him a free pass for what happened when the trophy was on the line.

      • reading literacy seems to be going down as society progresses it seems. did I say argentina were playing the qualifiers?

my point is that guys like Enzo will be crucial for us because we will have far fewer competitive matches to accommodate restructuring of the team. tapia already failed to coordinate a few low level friendlies. going to a world cup without argentina playing in qualifiers is a huge deal for EVERYONE, not just us. copa america without messi is also the what i was referring to before that.

my insult stands, especially towards you because you have just proved yourself an illiterate fool.

        • You literally wrote:
“this will be an interesting Copa América and qualifiers session coming up.”

I pointed out that Argentina has already qualified for the 2030 World Cup as a host. Now you’re pretending I somehow misunderstood your post and calling me illiterate?

When you can’t win an argument, apparently the next move is to start calling people “illiterate fools.” , “idiots”. There’s a reason personal insults are often the refuge of someone who can’t defend their position. Maybe get a lesson in comprehension before giving lessons in reading literacy.

  4. Mastantuono finally, come on kid never look back! The most hated argentine player here with Di Maria and Higuain but still much bigger talent than Soule for example, not even close.

    • Wish him the best. The competition on RW is best for Argentina. But Soule is way better to me. Way more versatile and unpredictable.

    • It’s wild how fast people gave up on him; they forget he joined the biggest club in the world at only 18 from Argentina. Do you have any idea how tough it is to adapt to a new country and an elite league? I’m glad he made the right call choosing Fiorentina since it’s an ambitious club with a great project, and he already had an awesome game with some solid goals; I hope he keeps it up and has a great season.

    • I know! C’mon kid, you can do it. There truly are some real idiots in here who know next to nothing about futbol. The comments bad mouthing Mastantuono these past days has been absurd. I’m so glad he’s shut them up for another week, with that performance. Vamos, vamos Argentina!

  5. I think he is tired and it will be better if he leaves, A key member of his team is already gone, We cant have a half hearted coach leading us for the new project.

    • half hearted? tired? are you scaloni? do you have a probe into his brain? utter nonsense. the majority of the team will likely remain outside of some poor performers cycling out, and they have a deep respect and trust with scaloni. if he leaves, then we will have to gamble on a 2018 project repeat. same drama will happen here as it did 8 years ago.

      • Nope, I’m not Scaloni, and neither can I read what’s happening in his mind. I can only say what we see from the outside, from another person’s perspective, just like all of us here.

Personally, I hope he stays. But looking at it from the outside, I don’t think he has the drive to carry on with us. He has nothing left to prove. There should be some motivation for carrying on.

  6. Being coach of Argentina is an honourable job. If someone has doubts, he should be replaced by someone who is eager and hungry for success. Scaloni had so much success that it cannot be topped and will be hard to continue. After the mistakes he made in the WC final (bringing on Senesi for Alvarez instead of a striker to help Messi upfront) and creating zero chances in 90 minutes, I guess he feels his time is over.

We’re going to see a major transition after the departures of Messi, Otamendi and possibly DePaul, LoCelso and Tagliafico. A new team has to be build around Romero, Lisandro, Alvarez and a few others. Paredes and Molina should not be selected due to lack of sportsmanship and damaging the reputation of the team.

Personally I hope Ramon Diaz becomes coach. Sure, he is quite old now, but he did wonderful things at River with Aimar, Saviola and Ortega. He works well with talent just like Bielsa, but the latter does not get results and is way too stubborn. Lots of new names have been mentioned already. Prestianni, Paz, Perrone, Aranda, Delgado, Flores and in a few years Cabral. Can the successes of the last 5 years be repeated? Unlikely. Remember, between 1995 and 2008 we won multiple U20 World Cups and 2 gold medals at the Olympics. Great players came through the ranks; Sorin, Aimar, Riquelme, Cambiasso, Saviola, Messi, Di Maria, Aguero just to mention a few. In the past decade we haven’t won U20 WC’s nor gold medals. Argentine clubs have not won the Copa Libertadores for years now.

Let’s wait and see what happens. Anxious to see the team selection for late September and early October matches. Argentina has been and will continue to be a football powerhouse. Other countries are however catching up. Therefore, Conmebol needs to find an answer to the UEFA’s nation league. Top European countries play against each other more often to raise the level of play. Maybe Conmebol and Concacaf can set up something up like an America’s league.

    PS
I agree Mastantuono should not (or better, never) be selected. The guy is a hype and lacks basic skills. It is a mystery why some Argentine journalists keep mentioning his name.

  7. Scaloni is underpaid compared to other NT coaches, if not for money what else are they negotiating?
I’d rather have him carry on than a new coach because we already know what we have in him and 2, the AFA will cheap out on hiring a big name coach, the Wall leaving hurts though.

    • If Scaloni chooses the same team, minus the suspended players, that played in the WC finial, and if Mastantuono is called up and given the No. 10 shirt, Scaloni should be sacked immediately.
