  1. For next World Cup our centre backs situation will be interesting:

30+ Romero and Lisandro (still a must, our only 2 world class defenders now) Senesi, Foyth, Balerdi, Medina, Nehuen Perez (after an achilles torn) all will be over 30, so no real options imo, they are 4/5 centre backs mostly, good but not great or very injury prone.

prime age category at next WC (2001-2004 born) not a real elite centre back talent in this category (maximum potential 4/5 as Balerdi’s and co.): Valentin Gomez, Ramos Mingo (wasted his career in Brazil now in Mexico as someone like Alexander Barboza earlier) Tomas Palacios, Troilo, Lomonaco, Di Lollo, Lautaro Rivero, Matias Moreno) 4/5 potential for all with the best possible development, now the most 3/5, so no Cuti/Licha/or prime Otamendi level CB talent.

2005+: the real interesting generation, full of 4/5 (minimum) and possible 5/5 ceiling and mostly ball playing centre backs.

Anselmino, Ovando, Jagger Herrera, Matias Satas, Arrayago, Gonzalo Escudero (Lichaesque player), Mateo Martinez, Juan Gimenez (after ACL but imo still maybe the biggest talent) and good but not exceptional talents like Santiago Fernandez, Tobias Ramirez, Pierani, Silvero, Spina.

    • I think we have full scope of options on the position for upcoming years (this is so much better than Ayala, Chamot or Milito, Burdisso… times). The upper age of for career lasting is moving still. Also they are later bloomers like Otamendi was on the position. And I think Tomas Palacios or Jagger Herrera are really in the highest potentiall category:

      • If Palacios is really this good he has to walk into the Inter starting lineup, simple. If not not a real option to race with Romero, Licha duo.

        • You know, in fact it’s not that simple actually because we have long tradition of big club underperformers finding his best and optimal form for NT form in the smaller ones. The list is really long. For the most recent ones I’d say Betis is perfect place for Lo Celso (if not the injuries). For the older ones Villarreal was better for Riquelme than Barcelona. I have no problem with Mastantuono being flop in Real while finding his best in Fiorentina and only from there delivering in NT (even if he never ever goes to bigger again). Same rule for Palacios.
