Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni on playing with 3 defenders, Lautaro Martínez

Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has spoken about the possibility of playing with three center backs and Lautaro Martínez being available against Colombia.

Lionel Scaloni spoke at a press conference on Monday where he confirmed that Lionel Messi will start against Colombia in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier. He also commented on possibly playing with three center backs. Here is what he had to say:

“Playing with three center backs could be an option. It’s not my preferred system but we have the players to do it if we need to.”

Scaloni also commented on Lautaro Martínez:

“Lautaro (Martínez) is doing very well, we gave him a few days off because he deserved it after so much competition. He is available for tomorrow.”

He did not play for Argentina in their 1-0 win against Chile. It could be one of Thiago Almada, Nicolás González and Lautaro Martínez who starts Tuesday’s match.

    • He was playing as a DM for his club for sometime now. His original position and his new one are very different and require different qualities. He should force the coach to play as LB or LWB if he is really serious about his development.

      • He played a lot in Boca as LCM too or inverted left back what is quasi an extra midfielder, his defensive qualities sadly not enough in Scaloni more traditional 4 men backline.

  1. Great news Valentín Carboni back to full training
I believe he will have a good chance to play regularly under new inter Milan head coach under chivu

  2. Scaloni will use the most physical options so Medina and Nico Gonzalez probably in a 3-5-2 Emi Nico Gonzalez Medina Otamendi Cuti Molina De Paul Paredes Enzo Julian Messi.
