Ángel Di María was officially presented as a Rosario Central player this Monday during a press conference at the Salón Centenario. The 37-year-old returns to the club where he began his professional career, after playing the last season with Benfica.
“This is more than anything I’ve done,” Di María said. “Coming back after so long, living in Rosario again, and wearing the Central shirt is something very important to me.”
Despite the club’s efforts to limit the event to the media, many fans gathered outside to welcome him. Earlier in the day, Di María completed his first training session with the team in Arroyo Seco and described it as a positive start.
Di María mentioned that winning a title with Rosario Central is one of his main goals: “Becoming champion with Central is the only thing I’m missing. Coming back was the first step—now I want to compete and help the team.”
Rosario Central will play its first match of the Clausura against Godoy Cruz on July 12 at the Estadio Gigante de Arroyito. When asked about the chance of featuring in the match, Di María said: “Ask Ariel [Holan] if I’ll play. It’ll be his decision.”
The presentation ended with Di María holding up his new shirt, first alongside manager Federico Lussenhoff and then with his family on the field.
