Enzo Fernández spoke about the Argentina national team’s World Cup final and his red card.
Fernández commented in an interview on his World Cup with the Argentina national team. In the same interview with LosEdul, Enzo spoke about the World Cup final and being red carded against Spain. Here is what he had to say:
“My mom and dad were calling me on the phone asking what had happened in the final. Nothing happened. It was all a lie, all made up. Spain beat us fair and square, so we have to congratulate our opponent.
“I obviously regret being sent off. No player likes being sent off, especially not in a World Cup Final. It hurt a lot. Over time, I came to accept it because it’s a moment I wouldn’t have wanted to experience, but I understood it as part of football. That sending-off still bothers me.
“We would have won the penalty shootout, obviously. We had Dibu, who we know never misses. Spain took possession and controlled the game. Thev were deserved winners. They always found the open man and were the better team. We have to accept and acknowledge that our opponent was better.
‘We were coming off two extra periods. Cape Verde in Miami with incredible heat and humidity. Then we had Switzerland where some guys were carrying knocks, with physical problems. I’d say half the team. The last weeks and moments of the World Cup were very exhausting. The group barely made it.”
